BOTM 211: Mansa Musa of Mali.

Deity. Do I need to say any more?

    Game settings:
Playing as: Mansa Musa of Mali
    Rivals: 6 AIs
    Difficulty: Deity
    Starting Era:
    Ancient
    Speed: Normal
Options: No goody huts, no random events
    Victory Conditions:
    All enabled

    Map settings:
    Map: Wheel
    World Wrap: None
    Mapsize: Standard
    Climate: Temperate
    Sea level: Medium
    Map latitudes: -90°S to 90°N

Mansa Musa is Spiritual and Financial, and you start with The Wheel and Mining.
The Spiritual trait gives no anarchy and double production speed of Temple and Cristo Redentor
The Financial trait gives +1 commerce on any plot that already has at least 2 commerce

    Unique unit: Skirmisher (replaces Archer)
The Skirmisher benefits from: base strength = 4, and 1-2 first strikes. This compares with the Archer which has: base strength = 3, and 1 first strike.

    Unique Building: Mint (replaces Forge)
Besides the +25% hammers and so on, the mint gives you +10% gold in the city.

Here is a link to a list of the differences between Vanilla, Warlords and BtS.

    Software Versions
Windows: This game MUST be played in Beyond the Sword (NOT Civ4 Vanilla or Warlords), patched to version 3.19, and with the BUFFY mod version 3.19.005 installed. You can download the BUFFY mod here. Players using Windows Vista or Windows 7 are encouraged to read the notes on Vista fixes here.
Macintosh: This game MUST be played in Beyond the Sword (NOT Civ4 Vanilla or Warlords), patched to version 3.19, and with the Mac BUFFY mod version 3.19.003 installed. You can download the Mac BUFFY mod here.

    While playing...
Remember - for your entry to be accepted, it MUST be your first attempt to play this game, and you MUST NOT replay any turns. If you make a mistake while playing, you have to live with it, learn from it, and carry on the game without replaying.

We will open 'spoiler' threads during the month for players to discuss what happens in their games. Do not discuss any details of your game outside those threads.

Hmmmmm, Wheel map is interesting, its quite a big map from memory.

Warrior east onto the hill, SIP seems reasonable

To get early Archery or not?

I would add pottery before Archery, floodplains cottages should make it less painful.
Something like corn, cottage then pigs mine for some :hammers:

If you get horses, skip archery.

Don't forget the barb blocking strategy. Shouldn't be too hard on a Wheel map to block them with single tile and 2-tile land bridges.

I've been itchin' for a good cottage game. It's been over 10 years since I switched away from them.
Finally, a FIN leader with rivers everywhere. Not sure Wheel has enough land tho.
Full cottage commitment means Democracy with Emancipation and Univ. Suff. Might as well build Statue of Liberty since you're there.

You're judging the adventurer save start here right ? :):)
I would prefer lifting the foodlevel by settling the plains over settling grass + save the forest, so yeah SIP. Though 1E is a good alternative if the warrior reveals something nice from his hill view. You loose only one likely valuable tile NNW.

Wheel map sounds like like we won't have AI pressing expansion immediately, so Pottery before BW (tech a bit faster, expand a bit slower)?
edit: oh, and typical mine-the-pig start

In any case we know it’s safe to settle 1E or 1N.

What does a Wheel map look like? Is it square? :mischief:

Kinda depends on the config settings. The Ring and Spokes can be set to 1, 2 or 3 tiles wide. (default is 2 tiles)
Each player start area is connected to adjacent areas and the center by these x-tile wide bridges. I don't think anyone starts in the center*.
    *without mapmaker interference.

Yes, it's probably shifted an hour because of the daylight saving time.

Spoiler threads are up? (I figured, seeing as its deity, it shouldn't take more than a few hours before people start submitting their conquest defeats  )

I won't bother to submit. Not my defeats nor anything I fail to complete in time. Although this is Wheel, I still think deity is best described by a belt with a clock on the buckle, referring to a waist of time, for me.

Here's an example of a square wheel that rotates. About 10 seconds later there's another invention that prevents resting while digging.

It's supposed to start at time: 57 seconds but Civfanatics doesn't allow me to show the clip from that time.
