Dominations, Conquests, and Space victories abounded. A pair of Cultural and Diplomatic awards went to the one player who pursued each of those.

There were no Religious victories. Perhaps that's because the Conclave is still locked away in the Apostolic Palace, pondering that outcome? :mischief:

donsig gets a pair of ambulances, again. I wish there was a better award for such persistence in the face of defeat.

Thanks for playing my game!

Here's where everyone settled. No surprises with this choice!

The Small Print:
The numbers by each player's name indicate the turn settled on (starting turn is 0). Players are colour coded by game class (challenger=red, adventurer=blue). Symbols indicate victory condition, if there's no symbol then the player either retired or was defeated. The yellow border indicates the land that was visible at the start of the game.

Wow, I was really lucky to grab that fastest space race award. Four players are within 11 turns of each other! And all with great launch dates in the 16xx AD. It's interesting that the old school State Property + Caste System hammer economy can still compete with the corporations (Mining Inc) strategy.

Great turnout for this game and many high-class performances. Congrats to everyone and thanks to the mapmaker.

It seemed like an excellent decision to involve the community in creating the map and that made me think if this could somehow be extended in order to lighten of the work burden of the official mapmakers. Few people know the intricate details of making a map but many players can use the world builder, so my question is: If someone where to build a game in world builder, play test the game and provide text and graphics for the game announcement how much work is left for you mapmakers to publish the game? Does it make a significant dent in the work load? If it does, it could be a way to have some "feature games" made by some of the regular players.

Congratulations to all of the award winners.

That was quite a heated space race contents. I didn't go space this time but I always struggle to know whether state property or corporations is better. I guess it's situational and depends on the amount of resources on the map.

Thanks for the map, MG!

Probably situational. I think a food-rich, green map favors the State Property strategy, but both strategies seem to have close to similar performance in many circumstances.

Nice space quest indeed. I did go the corps route, but do remember to have found the corps slightly underwhelming this time. Surely it's situational, I just still have to get a grasp of the situations I guess. I also have the feeling that game speed affects it, the past few years I've been playing some marathon HoF games and on marathon it seems more worthwhile, I guess just the time it takes to have full spread in game years is obviously smaller, so its effects overall are more instantaneous than on normal speed. Obviously the state property boost is instantaneous whether it's normal or marathon speed.

Good idea! Then again, personally I've never worldbuildered anything, so I'm afraid I can't really step up to volunteer for this, although maybe it isn't rocket science, just laborious. Only one way to find out, as a BOTM regular I do feel sometimes obliged. For now at least I try to write in the spoiler threads regularly. ;)

I am glad my diplo victory was uncontested, otherwise I would have had to :hammer2: because I wasted a lot of turns building the UN organically, had 3 GP to make a MoM golden age but was waiting for something more. Never got used. Honestly, I think it was the same turn as the first UN vote that I got (Darius?) to Friendly and someone else (Otto?) got big enough to be the opponent. So... lesson I learned is that the sooner you decide on a victory condition to aim for, the sooner that will come. Thanks for a fun game, especially fun when the victory screen comes up unexpectedly.

If I had gone for diplomatic I might have gotten it maybe 3-4 centuries later than you. But I could have stolen the diplomatic shield you got. Instead I took the cultural shield this time. Notice how I wasted 2 turns before settling in place. You don't often find that kind of dedication these days.
