[BTS] News: BOTM 300: Sparta, Monarch - Starts December 08

pssst...appears the save is up
Not anymore. It says 17 minutes, wait, refreshed the page it's 16 minutes. Or maybe you people know better where to look?

It was there - I hope it is the right one. I did not play any turn yet but opened it. @kcd_swede - ok to play the early save?
I believe you. And now it's there again and the page says the game is running. My game however won't be running. It will at most be jogging or maybe walking briskly.
I trust you won't get banned if you started playing 5 minutes early. Not even mapmakers are that .

I think the explanation of this is that there were two versions of the game release page lurking around: The old one, which I don't want to knock too much because it has served us well for about 20 years, but was difficult to maintain and not that user-friendly by modern standards. And the shiny spanking new one (for this game, at https://gotm.civfanatics.net/game-info/game-details.php?month=70300) , which puts all the links in one place and is a lot clearer about things like how long you have to submit. The new page is also more fussy about making sure each game becomes available to download only at the correct time (6am UTC on release day), plus it works for Civ3, Civ4 AND Civ5, whereas previously there were completely separate pages for Civ3 and Civ4 and nothing for Civ5 - which may give an idea of why I thought it prudent to replace it :-)

I suspect people had stumbled across the old release page which was letting the saves through early. I only a couple of hours ago got round to putting redirects in on the website to make sure that any attempt to look up any old release page now gets automatically redirected to the new one, which means it should now be impossible to stumble across the old page. (We needed the redirects because just about every historical game announcement on these forums links to the old page, which will soon stop working altogether).

I have an issue running the save properly. Maybe some kind soul can help me. Although I think I´ve set up BtS/BUFFY properly (screenshot), I receive a error message when starting the game (screenshot). If I ignore this message and continue, the save loads and BUFFY is running.
I´m running CIV4/BtS as GoG user, BUFFY is installed correctly (I think).

What can I do?

Hi @NightOnEarth! Interesting. Your first screenshot is the dialog that will appear if you don't have Civ set up to run as an admin, but your other screenshot suggests you do have it correctly set up as an admin.

A question: When you start the game, do you see the UNC dialog, saying 'Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device?' (Or whatever that is in German ;) ). If you don't see that dialog, then Civ/BUFFY isn't properly set up as an administrator. In that case I'd double check that you've set the correct file as the admin one (It should be the BtS executable - the file you'd usually double click on to launch civ generally (NOT the BOTM 300 save file you've downloaded btw).

Go to the bts folder in My Documents --> right-click on the bts folder ---> choose Properties ---> uncheck the "Read-Only" box (choose subfolders too) and wait for it to complete

Thank you both, Dynamic Spirit and lymond. Unfortunately, the problem persists. It's a freshly installed game from GoG on my wife's computer, because I'm currently abroad.

I have administrator privileges, but when I switch off the "read only", the system immediately resets my modification. My daughter's friend, an IT specialist, just spent one and a half hour with me to solve the problem, but in vain.

What baffles me, is that BUFFY is up and running after I select OK after the message. Therefore my hope is, that kcd_swede is able to extract all necessary informations from my savefile and that I may participate. To check this, I have loaded the BOTM and immediately saved it (see attachment).

Sorry to be a pain, but @NightOnEarth I've deleted your attached save because, even if it's not had any turns played, competition rules and the need for people not to have access to other people's saves means it can't be posted in public. The correct course of action would be to DM it to the mapmaker. However all is not lost - before deleting it, I downloaded it and have sent it to the game mods, so they can see what they can make of it. Hopefully we'll get you running soon,,,

@Noble Zarkon NoE may need the code

It's a freshly installed game from GoG
The GOG version uses a non standard path which means BUFFY can't find your installation so GOG users need a special patch. In order to provide that I need to know the installation path on your system.

Thank you for taking care of my problem, Noble Zarkon. To keep the traffic of this thread low, I have send my reply as a direct message to you.
btw: the OS is Windows 11.

:joke:Maybe you shouldn't use the unholy version?:joke:
The GOG version
Ezekiel 38 NIV "This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I am against you, Gog"

(I checked but didn't see any mention of BUFFY mod so it may be safe to use. Or maybe I'll get ⚡ for my jokes. You can only hope...)
I am able to post here because I haven't opened the save yet. I'll do so now to spare you from further jokes.

I too will join in thanks to the wise, dare I say noble, ones who have solved innumerable CIV4 problems of innumerable people (certainly including one High King) during the decades(!) of Gotm.

:worship::thanx::goodjob::hatsoff:
:hmm: Maybe I should rename myself as :joke::king: (JoKing)

EDIT: And :thanx: :viking: for the spoiler threads. Will shortly lament my lost game there. (I haven't started yet. My prediction is based solely on the pre-game information.)

The BUFFY mod is particular effective if any vampires need to be slain during your game.
I'm close to being undead already, sleeping in ⚰️ to save the time.
About ⚡, here's an example:
