Predator-Class Obstacles:

Thanks for your efforts, civ_steve. Interesting setup. Predator would mean a great deal here. At demigod two wonders for a golden age will be pretty hard to come by, especially if you go for a military victory type. Moving the setller looks tempting, although that river seems to come with only one flood plain tile.

Seems that steve makes a "best startposition competition."
hmm,what should i do?
build curragh first for early contacts or moved settler to have better land or not.
or i miss this game.

Yes, the biggest reason (that we know of) not to move the settler is no early curragh.
For a diplomatic/spaceship game I would absolutely move inland. For a military game, I'm not sure.

A river on a small 70% archipelago. Probably the only one in the world. And not very long. I would stay and build that curragh also for a science game and plan to possibly jump the palace three or four tiles inland pretty soon to the second town.

Am pretty new to actually tring Monarch level games, and will definitely give this a miss. But for those of you mentioning moving inland, doesn't the speck of white in the north scare you. Looks like we should have been the vikings instead of the romans. :-)

Hi LethalLogic!
I'm pretty sure the white speck is part of a sugar cane.

Hope you change your mind and play. Otherwise there's always GOTM113.

Ah Yes, you are right! I see the green on the white. Just goes to show why I was routed on COTM 82.

Am playing GOTM113. But due to the bad experience with COTM 82 chose conquest class, and now it appears that it was a mistake. Could have played open.

Once I'm done with the Mongols, I'll probably give this one a shot, but I already start with 2 strikes...first I've never won an XOTM with Rome (zero for three) and rarely win at anything above Emperor, but this might be my first.

I'm looking forward to this. I am playing through the GOTM right now, and when that is done I will start this. I will give it my all, but I fully expect a formal trouncing by the AI.

Edit: post became obsolete. t_x

Ok, I've started this game, but something is completely strange: I build my town, move my worker, and then the turn automatically ends, before I get the chance to go to F6 and select my research project!!?!

I go to the preferences and see this:
attachment.php

This is not at all, how my preferences usually look like?! Anyway, I set them back to what I usually use and save, then load the start .sav again (hope this is not against the rules?), repeat my steps and --- the same happens again! I go back to the preferences and see, that they are again changed!!
Did anybody experience the same problem?

I've now loaded the start save a third time, this time correcting the preferences, before doing anything else, and now the game behaved normally.

The preferences on the preference page are, unfortunately, stored in the save file. Other preferences such as governor settings for new cities, are stored on your computer from game to game. And civ_steve does not keep the preferences in the save files very consistent at all. Haven't you noticed?

An unticked Always wait button we didn't see in a very long time, but it has been known to happen. My first action in every game is always, always ^P.

Well, I did have to reinstall my entire Civ setup. If the default out-of-the-box setting is to Not Wait, then that is my current setting. I will update my settings to Wait at the end of the turn and hopefully that will fix that.
