GOTM163 - Brennus of the Celts

In game number 163 of the classic game of the month series you will rule as Brennus over the Celts, who are Militaristic and Religious and start the game with the knowledge of Warrior Code and Ceremonial Burial. The sponsored victory condition for this contest is the Conquest victory, which is achieved by eliminating all the other tribes. Games finished in any other way are not eligible to win this contest.
The Celtic unique unit is the Gallic Swordsman, which is a faster version of the standard Swordsman and costs 50 shields in PtW. (Attention: not 40 shields as in C3C!)

We continue to use a modified form of the standard PTW scenario, and although no bugs have been reported in some time, it is possible that play testing has not been exhaustive. Any in-game event or behaviour that a player feels is unintended should be reported to the GOTM staff immediately.

I see no reason not to settle in place. There's space for a first ring at RCP3 but water on both sides. Worker S to the Cattle tile.

Immediately start the Granary, as a six-turn simple combo needs nothing more than irrigation of the Cattle.

With three mines (and a cheap Barracks), three Warriors per Settler in six turns at size 4.6 - 6.6. Upgrade at 160 gold apiece. Start running like Sebastian Coe.

Moving 1SW would give +5fpt in Despotism, but you are right that it might mess up a full RCP3. The question is: which factor is more important?

And the other question is: who is Sebastian Coe?

W is another possibility. Brings water faster to the Wheat, and with so many shields we never need to reach population 7 during REX.

    Making spreadsheet with three pages...

BTW, how did you arrive at that number?! According to my calculation it should be 80 gold.

I usually count 4 gold per shield difference. Is that wrong? (50 - 10) * 4 = 160. But I could be wrong, I usually never calculate these things, but pay whatever the upgrade popup says.

I'm not sure i'll have time to play this one, but i will at least play the initial turns to see how the game could develop.

IMO, there seems to be at least a decent RCP3 by settling SW of the spot. Plus, we won't have to waste any worker jobs to get irrigation to the wheat.

but SW does not allow a Combo Factory, just the normal 4-turner, right? not AGRI trait...

Gotcha. You're right, in non-industrialist civs the extra shield from the BG is burned.

That makes me reconsider my idea and look for other options. One might be settling NW (same result, but without wasting a BG) or simply in place.

    4g per shield, when cash-rushing
3g per shield, when upgrading in C3C
2g per shield, when upgrading in PtW
1.5g per shield, when upgrading in C3C with Leonardo
1g per shield, when upgrading in PtW with Leonardo

So in PtW, upgrading is 50% cheaper than cash-rushing, and 75% cheaper with Leonardo. This is the reason, why connect/disconnect is so extremely powerful in PtW!
