    GOTM 67 - Rome!

I haven't done this in a while.... Even had to reinstall PTW to get this to work.

civ_steve is moving house, so he rather foolishly let me back in charge. :mischief:

    Civilization: Rome
    Rivals: 5 pre-selected.
    Barbarians: None
    Difficulty: Monarch
Land Form: Continents, 80% ocean, small map.
Geology: 5 billion years old, warm, arid

    Conquest-Class Bonuses:
    1. Start with a spearman.
    2. 50 Extra Gold

    Predator-Class Equalisers:
    1. All AIs start with a pikeman.
    2. All AIs start with an extra settler.

A reminder: do not post any game information to this thread after you have downloaded the save file. Absolutely no spoiler information for this or any GOTM is to be posted in this thread!

Will you play it, then? I challenge you for the fastest predator conquest.

That's up amongst the most sadistic starts ever dished out in GOTM history. Only the difficulty level makes up for its shortcomings. Just where (before Map Making) are we going to get enough food to build a settler...? Or is that grass to the SE?

What's hidden in the fog 2SE? A back of an elephant?

I believe so. It sure isn't a food bonus.

Looks like a dead cert for a 20K to me. I can count at least 6 shields. Add to that a coastal location for colossus, great lighthouse etc you couldn't possibly fail. Worker south, if nothing helpful revealed, settler east and build Rome on that spot.

it seems a long hiking (to the south to avoid desert?) may be necessary...

I'll try worker S and, if nothing of interest shows up, settler E-N.

I couldn't reveal anything NNE, but the ivory is a definite, and probably another one S,SE, which would make both those tiles plains. I think it's an ironic joke: we get a luxury, but we can't grow to pop 3 anyway, so we don't need it.

Got to play this as I've got a bad record as Rome, but monarchy is my favorite level. Probably head south and try to get a settler out ASAP. No need for a granary, that's for sure. Thinking about researching writing then map making, if my scouting warrior finds we're on an island. Without a slingshot in this game, I might end up in Despotism for quite a while.

Was going to play civ GOTM again but I notice that the classic seems to be only for PTW.
Is there no classic vanilla available?

We stopped supporting vanilla with GOTM 60. Once all players, including Mac users, had access to PtW there seemed little point in producing the vanilla version of the game.

Late start on this one, but that's truly an awful start. We can only hope iron shows up in those hills to partially offset this place.
