Civilization 5 - Game of the Month Training Series Game 133
\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\//////////////////////////////////////////

Welcome to the 133rd game in the GOTM V Training Series! This Series will allow new and old GOTM fans to try out these features from Civ5's expansions and DLCs in a friendly environment. Participants are encouraged to post questions, stories, advice, tricks and failures in the dedicated game threads (described below). Each game will specify the Civ you will play and the Victory Condition to strive for. You can read more about the GOTM and Training Series concept in this thread.

Must Read!
We would like to ask you to abide by our most sacred rule: Don’t replay any turns! If you make a mistake, accept it and try to recover. To ensure fair play and prevent results exclusions, please set your Autosaves to 1 turn. In the event of a computer crash while playing, just reload to the previous save and play it as closely to how you played it the first time. Please let Leif, Hammer Rabbi or me know (either in the forums or through Private Message) if you experienced a crash and how many turns you replayed.

Information about threads associated with each individual TSG -- Must Read if you are new to our Game of the Month!
Spoiler :
Please note: If you wish to make a video of your game, please do not post any links to it until after the game submission date has passed. This is because of the potential spoilers that are created by posting before the end date. Thank you for your cooperation.

TSG Announcement thread (this one): This thread is used to announce the game and clarify the settings and rules (don’t be afraid to ask questions). It’s also used to discuss the game before you start, and post problems with opening the save. Please don’t post any game-related info once you open and play the save. Instead use the next thread.

Opening Actions thread: This thread is used to discuss the game's opening decisions and strategies through the first 100 or so turns. Here you can post questions related to the game and share your achievements/anger/frustration/victories while you play. We encourage players to use the spoiler tags for screenshot. During the time the game is active, please do not post any information concerning the game outside of the spoiler threads including screen shots, videos, or recorded/live-cast Let's Plays on other websites.

After Actions thread: In this thread you can post the results of your game. Please state your victory/loss date (preferably in the post title) and describe your path to glory in this post! Players are encouraged to provide feedback on the game. Some players like to replay the game, and although we will not record the results from a replay, you can still post your new experiences. The game will not be closed as such, but after one month, the results will be compiled, and will not necessarily be updated with reports coming in after the finish date.

Results and Congratulations thread: We will create a separate thread with the results at the end of the one month submission period (sorted by earliest date and highest score ). We will issue a medal to the top winner (based on earliest date finished for each VC). There are no long-term records kept for these results, they are just given out to top finishers to reward their efforts.

File Upload System
We have a game file upload system you can find here. Please use it to upload your completed first attempt by saving the game on the turn after your victory or defeat. (by using the "lemme play one more turn" feature) Please note: you must submit your game on the turn following Victory. If you continue to play, the game overwrites the data and your submission could be rejected by the submission system.

This game runs for a month and ends May 15th, 2016.

The save will be available for download on April 15th, 2016 midnight Central Standard time (UTC -6:00) in the US.

The Save can be found here.

Intriguing. Good chance of a runaway culture civ with 9 opponents.

Tempting to settle on the copper by the mountain and build a wonder-hoarding city.

Don't forget about the Great Musician Tour bug on Quick speed. The 0.67 modifier is applied twice, on birth and on use. So, if you have 1000 tourism per turn, a Tour will net (1000x10x0.67)x0.67=4489

Byzantium screams Sacred Sites. I'm thinking Liberty/Piety mix here, with some Dromons to farm XP for a Great Admiral. Opening Honor is probably a good idea as well.

Settling the copper by the mountain for sure, if I have time to play this one. I finished game 131 and never bothered to upload it... I better get on that. This map is calling out Earth Mother, if there is a faith CS or faith hut nearby, I bet a religion will be in place by turn 50. Liberty/piety sacred sites mix for sure, and honor opener to know exactly where to send those dromons to fry barbarian camps. Hopefully there is enough space for 15 cities, if not we will have to make space. My vision is clear, but I doubt I can execute it properly. There are so many maps to play and not enough time for me to play them...

Copper river hill on mountain -- seems like a no brainer. Which it would be, except that it sacrifices being able to build the UU in the cap! But prolly not your only good production city, so well worth the trade.

Anyone arguing for SIP?

I think I will go two hexes due south. It catches all the bonus tiles in opening screen shot but gives up the hill and mountain. But then I can build the UU in the cap. Unfortunately, with the jungle blocking LOS, I cannot preview the plot the warrior.

I am not going to try SS, and will settle for just spamming wonders.

I think it's the best spot for SS here, not least because it allows the first expo to be planted on the Citrus.

Didn't think of that, but that is a far better choice. For an SS game, water-mills and gardens are completely unnecessary. We need as much space as possible, so it'd be better to fit 2 cities in the same area I would put 1 on. Plus citrus sucks as a plantation anyway.

I'd be against opening honor too, but being able to know where Barb camps are for dromon-frying will be a necessity to get that great admiral quicker. Culture from those barbs will be icing on the cake.

The hardest part will be clearing enough space on the continent for the REX, which byz's UU also Kind ofexcels at funnily enough. I see deserts to the north, which should be the easiest area for warrior to explore, scouts can go south and east. I hope this continent is as big as the settings say.

My first thought was settle the copper. Then I thought, no, SIP -> Liberty -> Citrus to keep expanding for SS. Coupled with Earth Momma, pretty powerful. Then I saw the desert to the north and thought...

Eh ... I'll probably send the warrior north and end up SIP... I've never won with SS. Tried once on Imm archipelago map... fail.

Wouldn't normally open Honor, but w/ raging barbs it could pay off.

Thanks for the answers.

This is going to be a weird one for me.

But I learn something all the time! :p
