We aren't currently researching anything, but could have Theory of Gravity (ISSAC's) researched in 3 or 4 turns. Do we want to save caravns for that instead of Magellans?

I hope I've not missed anything or done something totally different to what was being done before. It's very easy to lose track when you're not actaully playing the turns!

If King Octavian hasn't returned from the 'World of Doughnuts' conference (or got his Civ2 working!) I can play again about the same time on Monday.

We need more improvement settlers. We have 9 improvement-settlers on our main continent, which has 25 cities.
While checking I also saw that the archer in York downs is supported in MD, where one shield of support is payed. We'd save one shield if we rehome it in York Downs.

Let's IPRB some units in the newly acquired cities of Cadiz and Bactra. We don't want to lose them and give gold and tech away! I was thinking of diplos in both cities to begin with and then maybe a unit. Crusader or catapult will be nice as they've both got a defensive unit already. :)

I'll take a closer look tonight but I I'm afraid the next two days I won't have time to do much on my job of foreign advisor. Tnight I'll go swimming and tomorrow it's Sinterklaas (Dutch Santa Claus).
 
This is a silly question, but I have never thought of it before.
The spears to the left of the herald when talking to another civ, what do they mean?
 
I assume they mean relative power. The Vikings had 1, so I guess they are weakest. Spanish had 5 out of 6, so they are second most powerful - hopefully after us!
 
Just spotted, thh dip heading west along the pole is nearest Corinth! I thought it would be near a Russian city, not a Greek one! So now we know roughly where all our rivals are! :)

That's also my concern. At deity the AI is stronger so our units could easily be defeated especially when the AI manages to bring 3 or 4 units in a row.
Oh well, we'll see. :)

Delhi now demands Copper Dye Silk (changed from Hides & Wool), Madras the same Dye Copper Silver. Dehli still wants Silk. We have many silk factories: Bedfont Lakes, TFalls, Gabba Gabba seem convenient. The Marl Downs Salt we will surely deliver to Elysium, and RC Silk (in Cymru Straits) to Dehli again. We have 7 other Caravans:

We have 15 Settlers and are building 9 more. We own 6 Caravels, 17.Dips, 4.Crusaders 2.Knights and 8.Legions. The Reneaux Knight may be killed.

We own 12 Temples, 2 Libraries, a Courthouse and Marketplace in Elysium, and Uppsala Barracks. We are building The University of Elysium, Temples of Neuma Routskilde Uppsala and Viborg?, 12.Caravans, 3.Diplomats, Ferry Caravel Cymru Straits, 2 Catapults (some want Crusaders instead) and an Archer.

These cities are about to build Settlers, then grow immediately back to Size=3: Mordhiemia, Monks Towne.

My concern:
There is a chariot outside Viborg and a horseman next to our knights. When they attack at the beginning of next turn we will surely lose 2 units! :eek:

My solution:
Before hitting enter contact the Vikings and see if they are ready to sign a peace treaty. They are small, we are big. We have already taken a large part of their empire. They should be afraid. ;)
Don't give them anything though, there are 3 units in Viborg, one of them being crusaders. We'll kill them if we have to, but it's more convenient to try to save units without any costs.

If we want war again we just contact them again and ask for tribute. :D
 
We are already at Peace with the Vikings. Would they attack?

Support Plans for Republic

We are already in good shape, regarding Support and Unhappiness. We are allowed one War Unit per city. A Legion has recently walked down to Elysium, established home there, and is now back near Dellham. We could ship it to India, or send it up to Viking Land.

The Boreum Ferry is near YD with Ebor Settler and a Dip, ready to sail to Wheat South and found a city, start a Settler. The guard Legion was just built by MD, which already supports the Boreum Ferry. The new Legion is walking to Mord to rehome there, then ferry to Wheat Island. That will be the war unit for Mord, but with the emminent Settler, it would be the fourth unit. Octavia is guarded by a Mord Legion, so take support into Octavia. That resolves Boreum.

Unfortify the Dip SW of CJ, and send it up via Monks Towne, rehome there, then go guard Dellham.

Banana Bay is our only city with 2 Settlers, and is ok. It would grow more quickly if one of them could found a city, say Hill Mine. Udal is ok, but its Settler should found Lone Bison (on Island) before the next Settler is built. Fort Anarchy could support a war unit, also Monks Towne, Hipsheim and Nemo Bay.

Uppsala just built a Crusader, and may build more units, perhaps a Vet Catapult after the Temple in 6 turns. Unfortify and move the Viborg Legion S, so the Viking scum can only kill the fortified Warrior in Viborg. The Crusader will exact revenge. As soon at the Lindow Moss Road is ready, the Crusader might gallop there and rehome. Or perhaps later, rehome the new Upps Crusader in Viborg. Lindow Moss can support a war unit, also its Upps Archer guard, once it grows to Size=2 and works the Peat.

Beast Flats may have a problem, its Food Box is empty. In the Revolution into Republic, will that be a problem, or not?
 
An update on my attempts to nurse Civ2.exe to health...

From what I can tell, the problem stems from a conflict between my sound card and Windows XP. I will attempt to get a new card soon.

As for the possibility of patching, it doesn't look good. First, I'd have to get a new unzipping program for the .ace files. Considering my internet connection, it would be much easier to attempt the sound card reintallation.

Also, the 'World of Doughnuts' conference was a blast. :D

Now, to end the threadjacking: After looking through GaryNemo's post, a switch to republic may look good soon. Perhaps after we have dealed more with the Vikings, we should switch.
 
Do we still want to build Magellans now? We could have Theory of Gravity and Issac's in as few as 3 turns. Maybe we want to use our caravans for building that?
 
I'd rather have Isaac's than Magellan's. If someone else builds Magellans we can capture it. If they build Newton's there's not much we can do:)
 
Isaac's is hightly necessary to our SSC ; then I vote for switching our plans from Magellan's to Isaac's
 
In Elysium University 86/160, we can PRB $28, then it will be completed in 10 turns. Actually fewer, Elysium grows in 4, new serf onto a GLS. Btw, a Settler is irrigating Grassland near Elysium. We could "Clear Orders", move NW Irrigate then Road a GLS, a production square, instead So while I think Caraval speed will matter more to us, I recognize Isaac is very important to many - Elysium could build it in 10 turns.

I would rehome the Dip in MT (from RC) simply because MT seems safe, and we have two Dips homed in RC. It doesn't really matter. It is important Dips are well positioned. The Dip now standing on Silk can stay down at that post.

The oedo years for Republic are 840/860 920/940 and 1000/1020, so 920.AD is the next opportunity.
