Seriously? I mean, seriously?

1. Philly (Vick plays just enough games)
2. Dallas (WC)
3. Giants
4.Washington
1. NY Giants
2. Dallas Cowboys
3. Philadelphia Eagles
4. Washington Redskins

What the hell are you guy smoking? Dallas is always supposed to go to the playoffs. And you know where they always go? To the the cellar, to sit next to the Redskins.

Again, tell me what your smoking. I want some, because I want to think the Redskins can take it to the playoffs too.

So, are the Giants the least-respected defending champion of all time?

So, are the Giants the least-respected defending champion of all time?
Definitely. I think some of it may be due to the fact that Sexy Rexy swept them, but they're still the defending champs. But I really don't get the expectations for Dallas. They stink like Washington every year.

That said, I'd like to take this moment to bash on them too:

Source: ESPN
ESPN's Adam Schefter is reporting that the New York Giants are one of three teams currently over the 2012 NFL salary cap by about $700,000 and must do some juggling in order to get under by the time the regular season starts Wednesday. This is the e-mail from Adam:

Houston, Detroit and N.Y. Giants are all roughly 700,000 over the NFL's salary cap, according to a league source. Houston can take their cap exception from the Redskins and Cowboys and get under the cap but the Giants and Lions will have to make a move or restructure contracts to get under cap. They have until Wednesday to get under the cap.

This is, obviously, quite ironic, since it was Giants owner John Mara who chairs the committee that imposed the salary cap punishments on the Redskins and the Cowboys for the way they spent their money in the uncapped 2010 season. Mara was the driving force behind those punishments and spoke out strenuously in defense of them at the owners' meetings in March, when he said the Redskins and Cowboys were "lucky they didn't lose draft picks" as punishment.

The Redskins were docked a total of $36 million in cap space over the next two seasons and the Cowboys $10 million, and that cap space was divvied up among 28 other teams ($1.6 million apiece) to use as they see fit. Since Houston's apparently remains unused, they're OK. But the Giants already took their $1.6 million, so they will need to restructure a contract or make a move.
They have a mediocre O-Line, mediocre TEs, an injury-prone starting RB, and an injury-prone secondary; and they STILL managed to go over the cap. That takes talent.

All that being said, the Giants are still going to take the division.

Er, um, I think you're speaking strictly as a Skins fan, rather than trying to look at the situation objectively. Personally, I think the first 3 spots in the NFC East could just as accurately be predicted with darts as with actual thought, because IMO Philly, Dallas, and NY all have weaknesses that one can use to argue why they won't make the playoffs.

I would argue with NickyJ, but that would be like trying to argue with NickyJ.

Have fun with your mediocre overpaid coach and the Pierre Garcon experience!

It's not that I think the cowboys are that good, it's that that entire division is garbage.

Nicky, get back to me when you can formulate a reason that the Rams will be the #2 in the NFC West. Glass houses and stones.

No, I'm speaking strictly as a observer of a team who finished third place three out of the last four seasons. The Giants will win the division, and if they don't, the Eagles will. Dallas and Washington are still bottom dwellers.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think I said that Washington was going to the playoffs, or even getting a winning season.

Garbage enough to win the Superbowl, amirite?
+1

Because it's impossible to get lucky in the playoffs amirite?
Getting to the playoffs does not mean winning a Super Bowl against the Patriots.

Nicky, get back to me when you can formulate a reason that the Rams will be the #2 in the NFC West. Glass houses and stones.
The Cardinals have John Skelton as their starting quarterback. The Rams and the Seahawks are a coin flip, which could very well go in favor of the Seahawks. (To be honest, I didn't really pay a whole lot of attention to that division.)

The Giants were 1-2 4QC away from not making the playoffs at all. Coughlin is a fantastic playoffs coach (though he sure was lucky to face the impotent Falcons, a rusty Packers squad that played its second worst football of the past two seasons, and a 49ers team sans #1 return men in one of the most spectacular special teams disasters in a long while) -- but his regular seasons are something else entirely. The Giants went from super bowl and 12-4 seasons to missing the playoffs in two consecutive years; they're not a consistent squad at all.

And to say the Cowboys have been bad so they will always be bad is one of the most basic fallacies you could make.

Getting to the playoffs does not mean winning a Super Bowl against the Patriots.
Yeah because this was definitely the best Patriots team in years, not like they had an incredibly easy regular season schedule where they lost 100% of their games that involved facing a team with a winning record or anything.
