NHL playoffs start soon. Which team is going to take the cup home?

This thread is for playoffs discussion and predictions.

I think Montreal is tough in east and Detroit in west. I hope there will be surprises. My favorite team is Flyers but it will be somekind of miracle if they play in the finals.

One has to vote loyally, and loyalty to Montreal is above all else (but I might dig out my old child-sized Nordiques shirt from when I was 6/7 to cheer on the Avs a bit on the side...)

The final schedules, incidentally (unless I made some mistake).

Eastern Conference
1st Montreal Canadiens vs 8th Boston Bruins
2nd Pittsburgh Penguins vs 7th Ottawa Senators
3rd Washington Capitals vs 6th Philadelphia Flyers
4th New Jersey Devils vs 5th New York Rangers

Western Conference
1st Detroit Red Wings vs 8th Nashville Predators
2nd San Jose Sharks vs 7th Calgary Flames
3rd Minnesota Wild vs 6th Colorado Avalanches
4th Anaheim Ducks vs 5th Dallas Stars

I think that the cup goes this year to pittsburgh.

First round winners:

EAST:
Montreal in five
Pittsburgh in six
Washington in seven
New Jersey in five

WEST:
Detroit in six
San hose in seven
Minnesota in six
Anaheim in five

Ok. Here are my first round picks. Both in east and west there are tough pairs and predicting winners is hard. Capitals will probably beat Flyers but I have to support Philly my favorite team. Go Flyers!

East

Montreal in 5
Pittsburgh in 7
Philly in 6
New Jersey in 6

West

Detroit in 6
San Jose in 7
Minnesota in 6
Anaheim in 6

First round winners:

EAST:
Montreal in 7
Pittsburgh in 4
Philadelphia in 6
New York in 6

WEST:
Detroit in 6
San hose in 5
Colorado in 7
Dallas in 5

I think Montreal is gonna have a hard time.

On an other topic: I JUST RECEIVED A FREE TICKET FOR THURSDAY'S OPENING HABS-BOSTON GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In a Desjardins Loge!!!! Free food!!! :woohoo::beer::run:

I hate you forever :p

I like:
Habs in 6
Pens in 5
Philly in 6
Devils in 6

Red Wings in 4
San Hose in 5
Colorado in 7
Ducks in 4

Flames or Senators ? A 7th seed has won every year for 11 straight years.

Well, the 'nucks are out, but I'm still here to make my predictions. Pity I've been so busy with school all year that I haven't been able to follow any games at all.

Iggy's Prognostications

Eastern Conference
Montreal Canadiens over Boston Bruins in 5
Pittsburgh Penguins over Ottawa Senators in 6
Washington Capitals over Philadelphia Flyers in 6
New Jersey Devils over New York Rangers in 7

Western Conference
Detroit Red Wings over Nashville Predators in 6
San Jose Sharks over Calgary Flames in 6
Minnesota Wild over Colorado Avalanche in 4
Anaheim Ducks over Dallas Stars in 7

East

Pittsburgh 4-1 Ottawa
Philly 4-2 Washington
New Jersey 4-2 NYR
Montreal - 4-0 Boston

West

Detroit 4-1 Nashville
San Jose 4-3 Calgary
Minnesota 2-4 Colorado
Anaheim 4-2 Dallas

Eastern Conference
(1)Montreal 4 vs (8)Boston 1 - The Bruins don't stand a chance
(2)Pittsburgh 4 vs (7)Ottawa 2 - The Sens will put up a fight, but will be overwhelmed
(3)Washington 4 vs (6)Philadelphia 3 - Every playoffs needs its Cinderella team
(4)New Jersey 4 vs (5)NY Rangers 3 - This is a tough one, but I'll say New Jersey ends up taking it

Western Conference
(1)Detroit 4 vs (8)Nashville 1 - No contest
(2)San Jose 3 vs (7)Calgary 4 - A number 7 seed always pulls off the upset, and the Sens aren't going to be doing that
(3)Minnesota 4 vs (6)Colorado 2 - Home ice FTW
(4)Anaheim 4 vs (5)Dallas 3 - Selanne and Niedermayer give this one to the Ducks.

Oh man. I didn't logged in to make any predictions or assessments of the teams involved in the playoff race. Nope. Not today. I merely came by to gloat a little.

I received a ticket, in the reds, for the first game tommorow night!!! You won't be alone there Rhymes!

Eastern Conference
1st Montreal Canadiens vs 8th Boston Bruins - habs in 6
2nd Pittsburgh Penguins vs 7th Ottawa Senators - pens in 5
3rd Washington Capitals vs 6th Philadelphia Flyers - caps in 6
4th New Jersey Devils vs 5th New York Rangers - rangers in 6

Western Conference
1st Detroit Red Wings vs 8th Nashville Predators - wings in 5
2nd San Jose Sharks vs 7th Calgary Flames - sharks in 7 high scoring high intensity games
3rd Minnesota Wild vs 6th Colorado Avalanches - avs in 7. OT!
4th Anaheim Ducks vs 5th Dallas Stars - stars in 6. please? the axis of evil (brian burke, brad may, and ESPECIALLY TODD BERTUZZI is all reunited in anaheim, so I can no longer support them)

wishful thinking iggy :p

EDIT: and we win, thereby guaranteeing a loss in at least 5. ;)

Av's owe Jose for that one--only 7 shots going into the 3rd

Who is the alltime leader in playoff OT goals--he added another tonite

# 19

@j_eps- Indeed, it is wishful thinking. Frankly, the Minnesota/Colorado series is interesting, because I'm happy with either team losing. I'm just not happy with either team winning. With any luck, now it will be a long, grueling 7-gamer with plenty of fatigue by the end. ;)

Montreal over Boston 4-1
Pittsburgh over Ottawa 4-3
Washington over Philly 4-3
New York over New Jersey 4-1

Detroit over Nashville 4-1
Calgary over San Jose 4-3
Minnesota over Colorado 4-3
Anaheim over Dallas 4-2

My biggest hope is that the big West coast powers (San Jose and Anaheim) and Detroit will get taken out within their own conference.

My top four favorites :

-Montreal
-Colorado
-Washington (CHRISTO!)
-Calgary (The Stanley cup belong THIS side of the border!)

Playoff tree time!
