So it's all said and done, and it comes down to this:

    Montreal (8) v Washington (1)
    Philadelphia (7) v New Jersey (2)
    Boston (6) v Buffalo (3)
    Ottawa (5) v Pittsburgh (4)

    Colorado(8) vs. San Jose (1)
    Nashville (7) vs. Chicago (2)
Los Angeles (6) vs. Vancouver (3)
    Detroit (5) vs. Phoenix (4)

Interestingly, in the east, not one of the top-4 team has a positive record against its opposition: Montreal-Washington and Ottawa-Pittsburgh are tied 2 win 2 loss against each others; NJ (1-5) and Buffalo (2-4) have negative records against Philadelphia and Boston.

In the east, the matchups are not quite so strange; both Vancouver (3-1) and Chicago (4-2) have had the advantage so far against their opposite numbers. Colorado and San Jose, and Detroit and Phoenix are also tied 2-2.

Should be interesting to see what happens now. I don't expect Montreal to make it very far, but at least, Montreal-Washington should make for some great hockey.

Lets see if we can get a playoff pool going.

    CFC Playoff Pool rules:
Select a winner in each matchup as well as a number of games.
For a correct pick in the first round, you get 2 points. Second round is 3 points, third round is 4 points, and fourth round is 5 points. A bonus point is awarded for correctly guessing the number of games.

    East
    (1)Washington 4 vs (8)Montreal 2
    (2)New Jersey 4 vs (7)Philadelphia 0
    (3)Buffalo 4 vs (6)Boston 1
    (4)Pittsburgh 4 vs (5)Ottawa 2

    West
    (1)San Jose 4 vs (8)Colorado 1
    (2)Chicago 4 vs (7)Nashville 2
    (3)Vancouver 4 vs (6)Los Angeles 3
    (4)Phoenix 2 vs (5)Detroit 4

    Philadelphia (7) 4 v New Jersey (2) 2
    Boston (6) 3 v Buffalo (3) 4
    Ottawa (5) 4 v Pittsburgh (4) 1

    Colorado(8) 4 vs. San Jose (1) 3
    Nashville (7) 1 vs. Chicago (2) 4
    Los Angeles (6) 3 vs. Vancouver (3) 4
    Detroit (5) 4 vs. Phoenix (4) 2

Or, in shorter form, WAshington in 6, Philadelphia in 6, Buffalo in 7, Ottawa in 5
Colorado in 7, Chicago in 5, Vancouver in 7, Detroit in 6

Well I think the top four seeds in the east are clearly superior over the bottom four. :p

And in the west, Colorado really stumbled their way in. Only 3 wins in their last 10 games. Los Angeles and Nashville might pull off an upset, but I think Chicago and Vancouver should make it out. And of course, Detroit over Phoenix, what with how Detroit has played since the Olympics.

And yet Washington and Montreal are tied 2-2 this season, same for Ottawa and Pittsburgh, the Devils are 1-5 against the Flyers and the Sabres 2-4 against the Bruins :p

They are superior teams overall, but the matchups range from not the best they could have to absolutely horrible :p

I must say that I am surprised that everyone is taking Philadelphia over New Jersey.

As I said: NJ has a bad track record against Phillie this year.

Plus, they took upset losses in both 2007-8 (Finished 4, lost to 5th place Rangers) and 2008-9 (Finished 3rd, lost to 6th place Hurricanes).

I'm excited for playoffs! I've got a ticket for the Canucks playoff opener.

I could have a ticket for game 2 too, but I've decided I should be responsible (just spent a bunch of money) and save that money for a second round game (well, a second as I have a ticket for round 2 home game 4 if needed). Plus I already had plans for Saturday night, which at least is something that can be done with a TV on.

As for my picks, I'm usually terrible at this but here goes:

    Montreal v Washington in 5
Philadelphia v New Jersey in 7
    Boston v Buffalo in 7
    Ottawa v Pittsburgh in 6

Colorado vs. San Jose in 7
    Nashville vs. Chicago in 5
Los Angeles vs. Vancouver in 6
    Detroit vs. Phoenix in 6

Great news today in Chicago today. Brian Campbell is skating and should be practicing soon. He won't play in the first round though so let's hope we get through this series.
