Stanley Cup matchup: Boston over Colorado

A couple of changes I made to the scoring system. As Oda suggested last year, increasing the correct number prediction points for the Final, so I increased it to 2. Also simply predicting a Conference champion is worth 2 points.

Another change I'm thinking of given the new playoff structure is including a prediction worth 1 point for predicting who wins each division bracket. If people like that addition then we will add it.

I feel like I'm the only one here who has faith that Detroit can pull this off. Maybe it's because I spend too much in the echo chamber that is /r/detroitredwings, but I really feel like Detroit will come out as the hard-fought winners against Boston.

Although Boston is definitely the team to beat for sure.

I guess I'll try to defend my title, although I've replaced the radio on my way to work with spanish podcasts to learn a new language since July... Which means I have heard a lot less about hockey than I usually do and I don't know what's going on and who's any good this year.

I think they could have gone far, but beating Boston in the first round without Zetterberg and with that defence seems too tough to me. It would be great though.. Detroit vs Chicago in the finals :)

No picks for Conn Smythe?

Mine is... Patrice Bergeron for two extra points :p

With all the new kids performing as great as they are (Tatar, Nyquist, Jurco, etc), I'm not particularly missing Zetterberg. This isn't the Pittsburgh Crosbys; Zetterberg doesn't carry the team as much as people think he does. Also, Chara is getting old; Nyquist was able to skate circles around him last time they played, and that was before Datsyuk was back.

It's definitely not going to be a blowout, at least. Boston-Detroit is going to be the most interesting round 1 series by far.

Chara is old, but will still be great in the play-offs. However, it's the defence in Detroit I'm more concerned about in this match up. Detroit will be able to score on Boston, but not as easily as the other way around. Boston is too deep and too good imo. I'm not sure when Detroit get J Ericsson back, but without him they've got Kronwall and DeKayser who seem decent, the rest seem to be pretty average at best. No Chara...

Detroit is probably one of the two teams in the east I'd give the best odds against Boston.

Just not 50%+1 odds (Montreal is the other of the two)

I'm in a Bruins echo chamber, so it's nice to see almost everyone here picking Boston to at least make it all the way to the championship series. But if the Red Wings do beat them, you will pretty much win the CFC pool by default.

Nah, it's still only worth two points. We'd all get to jump on the Detroit bandwagon in the next round. Now if Detroit beat Boston and went on to win the East (+2) and the Cup (+4) the rest of us would have a tougher row to hoe, but we'd still just be a couple of picks here or there away from even . . .

Speaking of points, I suppose I'm a little late here but I see a couple of things that are confusing. Correctly picking the conference champs and Cup champs are each given a certain number of points, as is predicting the final series in the correct number of games. Everyone posted a champion and a finals matchup, but not everyone -- including Subi, who posted the rules -- posted a number of games for the final series . . .

Were we supposed to pick a number of games for the final series before the playoffs began . . ?

We have never had number of games in the final as a category. People have sometimes just randomly done it and I've always just ignored it.
