Nitpick: But I hope the Devs make the Policies more interesting Ability/Flavor Text Wise.

Don't get me wrong in Civ 7 there was some barebones names but "medicine" and "tool making" don't seem like policies they seem like things you should be doing across any game. I'd appreciate it too if they gave some options with some nuance as well beyond very basic modifiers. Things that might be very situational and only useful in specific playstyles or have downsides that you'd have to weigh the pros and cons of. I mean not only is "castes" a wild name for a policy but the fact somehow implementing a caste system just gives a food bonus modifier adds onto the absurdity. I get that its a game at the end of the day but for the entry in the franchise that's trying to be the most representative of the flow of history I think they should give equal attention to all features to represent the story they're trying to tell.

Castes gives a food bonus to Towns… so encouraging Towns to focus on food to Feed cities of Specialists as opposed to more self sustaining cities

They could definitely improve some of them.

I can get the vision there but I feel like a bit more specificity of effect would've made that clear. Like maybe each town gets a boost to their specialization at the cost of a debuff to all other aspects.

Definitely one of the weaker aspects of the game that we've seen so far, imo, along with governments as a whole. Need to play the final game to form a full opinion, it might still work well enough, but I hope they build on it. More theme and flavour would be nice, for a start.

The thing I really don't like here is "+X% production towards...". That's the type of cards which were part of Civ6 micromanagement (along with cheaper unit upgrades, for example) and card juggling. I really don't like seeing them reappear.
Those COULD be okay if there was a cost to card swapping
Say X gold to remove a card….to encourage staying in place.
and possibly a delay for removing a card you recently put in.

Not sure, but it appears to me that these are the options available quite early in the age -- which would explain the fairly vanilla pickings.

Well, yes, but I would think that your policy is to emphasize these things. It's not that without this policy, no tools will be made or used in your empire.

As to the names of policies, I guess different players value different things. But I have played way over a thousand hours of 6 and although I'm quite aware of the content of the policy options, I rarely notice the names of them at all. For me, really a low priority.

I have to agree that civic and policy names are a bit substandard. In some cases, like the Mississippians, there's just not a lot to work with, and I get it.

But the Hawaiians have a civic called Surfing (in their language). While they invented surfing and it has cultural significance to them, I disagree that it's appropriate to name a civic after it.

I concur. I hope that Civ unique policies don't meant that all of the more historically flavorful policies are made exclusive.

Yeah, maybe the flavor could be a bit more flavorful, but what I would really like is having the current effects of the policy displayed (like in the Extended Policy Cards mod for Civ6).

I can make an exception for that because the policies for individual civs are called "traditions". Its the regular policies that bother me because most of them aren't actual policies.

I'm not saying they shouldn't take away from the exlcusive traditions its just that most of the "policies" aren't policies, like "medicine" isn't a policy its an object, at best its the practice of medicine but all cultures practice some form of medicine so what makes it a unique policy?

Im talking about the unique civics, not the Traditions.

That mod is an absolute lifesaver. I know one of their big focuses for this game is managing all the micromanaging but i'd rather they do that through making the UI more readable so you don't have to sit and do the calculations rather than strip away features.

Yeah but isn't the main point of the unique civics to unlock traditions alongside the unique units/improvements.
They also have an effect on their own

If they renamed the Social Policies to something like “Social Institutions” I think that would work better
