I'm thinking of creating the intermediate map size between the current standard and large maps as for the life of me i can't understand why this map size wasn't also an option.

It goes:
Tiny 60x60
Small 80x80
Standard 100x100
Large 140x140
Huge 180x180

Now, i always find the standard map with 8 civs a little on the small side and the large map with 12 civs a little on the slow side turn-time wise...

So, why not have a 120x120 with 10 civs?!

Anyone tried this?

I did, but the game crashed irrecoverably. Never tried again. But it looked good initially, especially since I had little land (as much as with a standard map with 60%) and lotsa islands - this made the sea race really important. Problem is that I new that beforehand since I designed the map.....

Yeap,

i have it implemented. 120x120, all other factors proportionally defined between those from 100x100 and 140x140. And 10 civs.

It works well, specially using 80% water because that produces a lot of sea to deal with (and AI huge fleets).

My game crashed in 1965 A.D. but i am pretty sure it was because i started it with 1.116f and tried to finish it with 1.17f. If you ask me, the map size changes had nothing to do with the corrupted savegame.

Just try it. It's worth the test. Not slow, almost speedily as 100x100, but a lot funnier.
