Hey, ok, so I just got civ4 and was searching for a no-cd for the current version, 1.74, and could not find one. Anyone have some info on it or know where I can get my hands on it?

:wavey: Welcome mttsnb!

I'm not sure what you mean by a 'no-cd' version of 1.74 :hmm:

You must have the cd/dvd in the drive in order to play, but there exists a downloadable patch so you can bump up to 1.74. It can be found here.

That also happens to be posted in the first thread in this forum: New v1.74 Mac Patch Available for Civ4 'Vanilla' ;)

Good luck!

Hello, mttsnb, and welcome. :wavey:

Please be aware that CivFanatics has a policy of not advocating or discussing no-CD cracks, unless they are distributed by an authorised publisher of the game software. I am not aware of any authorised no-CD option available for the Mac versions of Civ4 or Warlords.

Ok, thank you peter and alan. I just find it anoying having to bring the CD with me on the laptop.

An annoyance many of us share. I know of no way to stop the game from needing to DVD to start, though IIRC you may be able to eject it after you've started the game.

People would not need to discuss this topic if Firaxis realised that no one wants to carry around disks anymore. They get scratched, worn-out, lost, and they are very unreliable.

I could not play Civilization for ages because I lost the disk, even though I had the game files on my computer, and my external HD, they were all useless. I couldn't even burn a backup copy of the disk because of the stupid CD-checking thing.

Hi, welcome :wavey:

I understand your annoyance, but there's no point in complaining here. It's most unlikely that Firaxis or Aspyr will ever read your post, and even less likely that they would do anything about it for existing games.

Firaxis actually *did* remove disk protection from BtS at version 3.19, and they *have* moved on with Civ5, which comes with a copy protection method using Steam, and overcomes the issues with optical media. Aspyr also now offer download options for buying their software, which remove the need for a DVD.

This is now ancient history. Thread closed.
