It seems to me finding an early culture ancient ruin is huge towards starting out game good. If you find culture ruin on 1st or 2nd turn and select liberty tree then you can immediately start getting +2 culture. This will let you reach the free worker policy about 10 turns into the game. As opposed to having no culture bonus at all this could take around 25 turns.

Having a free worker this much earlier makes SUCH a huge difference to city growth/production. I like to play on immortal pangaea and i feel like almost need that early ruin to win. I be honest usually I reset if i don't get that early culture ruin =((

I agree an early culture ruin is awesome. Too bad i can't reset a multiplayer game or people will call me a quitter.

To me it's not as bad as not having iron available within a reasonable distance, since you don't find that out until quite a few turns in.

It's extremely strong, but if your strategy relies on it that heavily just play France. Belching out a free Settler on turn 11 or 12 if you hit a ruin is a little absurd, and you don't get crucified for REXing quite the way everyone else does.

I don't think it's that game breaking. It's nice, sure, but if you don't get it, you adapt. Just because you get the free worker quicker doesn't mean you don't get a worker quicker. If you don't get a culture ruin, then you might build a worker instead and get the benefit of an early worker anyway.

Meh.

Normally i play with ruins off, though in my last few games after patch i've had them
on. Honestly, i'd rather find a +1 :c5citizen: or a tech.
And, every time i walk onto a ruin, i'm thinking of the AI doing the same all over the
map, with their horde of scouts, giving them yet another huge advantage against me.

I agree with RedRover, not having iron is much more of a disaster than not getting the
tiny increase in culture.

I play with ruins off. I might make early exploration a little less important (though it still is good to know whats out there) but it evens the field and means that my progress is exactly that, my progress.

However I do like it when I get a culture ruin, but I'd prefer a free citizen or a tech

I've had ruins off since I once managed to get a Crossbow into a Rifle, granted that was before the recent patch, but I figure, why let the AI have even more advantages against me? Either way I agree that ruins can be too advantageous whatever they churn out, just too unpredictable.

Granted, I'm not playing at King level, but then again, what's the point of playing if it's not going to be fun?

Gimme a size 2 city on turn 4 anyday over an early culture buff. I've had a size 3 city by turn 11 because of 2 ruins giving out free pop and at that point, go go go settlers! Really go go go anything because with a pop 3 city that early and the right starting resources... Well, it's going to be a good game!
