No Gandhi for the foreseeable future, perhaps ever! That's a yay for me

With the reveal of Rani Lakshmibai, it's extremely likely that Gandhi won't make it in civ 7 for a long time. It would be extremely stupid to add 4 leaders for a single country. Of course, there's America/France, but there's also the caveat that some leaders there are personas, or encompass multiple civilizations. Both Rani and Gandhi are competing for "modern anti-British Indian leader" and have a narrow range of civilizations they can fit in.

With some civs not even having leaders, I would be extremely surprised if Firaxis would add more leaders beyond Rani. Especially because it's much easier to add civs than to add leaders.

I'm happy with this, honestly. The Indian subcontinent has such a great array of leaders that could be used who are much better than Gandhi, and if I'm being honest, 2025 is a great time to kill off the 'nuclear Gandhi' meme that's plagued civ for decades. It's such a stupid and ridiculous idea that's sadly wormed its way.

Nuclear Gandhi must return....(when they release the 4th Age expansion including an Indira Gandhi leader)

Kind of ironic that the one past leader that perfectly fits Civ 7’s definition of leaders has lost so much goodwill from all the memes and overuse in previous games, that a sizable portion of the player base now rejoices at his exclusion.

But yeah, realistically I see him as an inevitable sales pusher for future DLCs or expansions.

I would go as far as saying that France doesn't have a single real leader in the base game right now!
  • Both Napoleon personas require linking one's Steam account to their 2k account. Not every player will have a 2k account, some won't care, some will refuse for privacy reasons ... Napoleon can't be considered a part of the leader pool. He's external to the game!
  • Lafayette is as much American as he is French. I'd say he was probably even more important to American history than he was to French history. Not really a "French" leader for me.
  • Charlemagne is the worst thought. Charlemagne was born in Aachen (current Germany) and could be best described as the last Roman emperor. One of his sons might be considered as the first king of France (or what would become France) but Charlemagne certainly can't be. He's definitely an important European historic figure, but he's not french!
That sucks because with so many so-called "french" leaders already, there's a real risk we won't see a real french leader for a long time, if we ever see one. And with Civ7 non-leader leaders including everything from explorers to scientists, there was a lot of cool choices from a very conservative approach bringing back Joan of Ark (who wouldn't feel out of place for a change) to someone like Voltaire who was one of the driving forces of the Enlightenment.

I disagree, I would like to see Gandhi return, since he's such a classic civ leader. I would like to see a serious implementation rather than a meme one, but it also would be fun to have an easter egg that references the nuke bug, perhaps as a Memento.

That's where I'm at really. As someone who didn't actually lead his nation but was influential, he'd be a perfect fit.

But oh my god. I've spoken to some people who knew nothing about Civ except "GaNdHi NuKeS eVeRyOnE lol" and find it exhausting. And I dislike even more that it was coded in later games.

If he came back, but WITHOUT some kind of in game nuclear association, I'd be OK with that.

I argued before how I think Gandhi makes perfect sense in civ VII, It's just that he was so overused before, that, I'm just so tired of seeing him and his memes. but give him a few expansions, a good serious representation (and keep the meme to just one memento) and he should be fine.

My main gripe with him was always portraying INDIA as a whole, now that we have a lot of civs from the subcontinent, he might be more palatable.

Nice thing about the Mementos is they can get switched every era.... so one that specifically helps nukes would be viable... just equip it the last age for a bonus

Unless they somehow release a modern India, I wouldn’t really like that. India doesn’t really need four leaders for one region

Yeah, basically every part of civ 7 is basically geared towards Gandhi (from splitting India up, not being rulers, etc..), that it's super ironic that he's not in yet. Heck, the fact that the military victory is about making a Nuke, you could limit the Nuclear Gandhi meme to basically give him a unique victory screen, or like a special animation when he actually nukes someone, without like adding it as an actual leader agenda, and it would probably be funny without distracting from any other part of the game.

Don't worry, Gandhi will appear in the future. There's no way they would drop him only now.

Depending on how many leaders we see, I could still see Gandhi getting in. If India adds an exploration era leader, then I think his odds at being the fourth choice are pretty solid. Probably tied with Akbar/Nur Jahan at that point.

the rani of jhansi has been a community demand for literal years. it’s really awesome to see her finally join the cast.

i would prefer to see Akbar and Rajendra/Rajaraja Chola than leaders from india who aren’t associated with the civs in the game atm.
