No More Multi.sav Cheat!!!

It was bad enough that Civ III had no scenario-building and no cheat mode, along with a very inadequate Editor.

But at lest we WERE able to use the multi.sav cheat to see the entire map.

Well, guess what? I just renamed an autosaved game multi.sav - and there was NO change; we could NOT see or do anything other than normal. I checked and rechecked.

THANKS FOR NOTHING, FIRAXIS. When the eff are you going to give the fans what we WANT instead of what you in your paternal arrogance deign to toss at us???

I am sure Gramphos will come up with a new version of MultiTools in no time at all. And after that you can use it to reveal the map.

I said it before, I say it here and I`ll say it again:

taking out the multi cheat is IMHO to make sure we don`t understand game mechanics so we don`t see where they delivered less than they claim they did. They don`t want us to find out where the AI cheats, where it is buggy, where it knopws things it isn`t supposed to know.....

You can just remove (or even lighten) the bitmap used to provide the fog of war effect (someone posted a mod to do this, but its easy to do yourself). Sorry to the author - can't remember who you are.

Not all fans WANT a cheat mode actually. However, if they did / do put one in, then I assume that I am allowed to be patronising and condenscending then flame them incessently????

Well the multi.sav cheat should never have been in in the first place... because it was an 'unofficial' cheat which anyone could have been using. At least cheat mode in civ2 toggled the 'cheat mode' flag (even though that was removable it made it a bit more difficult). How could you trust any of those highscores again with the multi.sav cheat?

You wanna cheat you can do it anyway. Save, play on, then reload.
It was made easier by multi.sav, but still GOTm and HOF was a matter of honor. It still is. So what`s the difference??????


I`ll stick to my first guess: Firaxis doesn`t want us to go on analyzing the game like we (especially people like Shaitan, Bamspeedy and many others ) used to do.

Because you think that it's not possible to cheat in a Civ3 game even without the multi.sav ?

OK then, fine. Everyone wants the Cheat Mode back, anyway. So let's have an OFFICIAL cheat.

But Firaxis will not give us what we want - they do give us crap we never wanted such as Culture Flipping.


For those who never played Civ 2 (shame on you), the Cheat Mode could be used for a great many useful things other than just trying to "cheat".

In fairness, I think I've seen as many previous posts asking for the removal of the multi.sav cheat as I've seen people asking for it back. Maybe an "official" cheat mode would be cool, but I guess I don't really care one way or the other...

Being in SW development myself, I do understand the difficulty of changing something to please half the world (the loud half, generally), and then getting blasted by the other half of the world who quietly liked things the way they were (who then immediately become the "new" loud half!). Then, generally a compromise can be reached where everyone is partially upset (but no one is really happy)...

And that's just life...

Personally, I have never had a city culture flip. Perhaps because I sometimes switch my production from Archers (and no, not to Horsemen!)

Regarding the Multi cheat, you can still "analyze" the game as much as you want by altering the F.O.W. bitmap. Otherwise, it just took away another way to cheat on GOTM, for which I'm glad.

(not that it matters: most highscores are generated by milking anyway, which is a sort of exploit: a real empire as large as the kind needed for milking would never actually sit back and rest for 2000 years when they could conquer the world.)

Lay off JustListenen. Zouave has every right to point this out but you don't have the right to light a fire under his ass. If you want to get into complaints mine is that you are posting off-topic in here since you are just complaining about the thread starter and not adding to the discussion. You can complain about him, just make sure you have something to say about the subject at hand and that you also don't do it in such a way that involves *****ed out words.

No no no,. No offense but i think ur the arrogant here, because you are talking for urself, the new patch (1,21f) is very good and fun to play with and why would u want to see the whole map with a cheat? i agree with u that it sucked that the game doesnt have scenarios or cheats like civ2, but just because now you are not able to see ur entire map with that multi.sav cheat, it doesnt mean the game or the new patch sucks.

I think your talking only for urself in this matter because im very sure 99% of the gamers like the new patch and dont need any multi.sav to see the entire map, which i think is dumb. Why would u want to see the entire map? first the game gets slow when u have the entire map (no fog in civ2) thing and second there is no fun knowning where ur enemy is in case they are going to attack.

The new patch is very good and thank god firaxis fixed the AI trading.

I hope i didnt offended you. But u shouldnt start a flame thread just because u didnt liked a small detail of the game. If u dont like a small detail then learn to ignored it and focus on the good details of the game. The entire map no fog stuff being unavaible is no reason to flame a complex game which is more than that simple detail.

LoL firaxis created the game (civilization 3) so they already gave u the game, and you like it, so what are u talking about?
Culture fliping is a small detail of the game, i like it. But if some people dont, then that thing is not a reason to say that the game sucks.

1) To be able to playtest.

I agree. I just don't get it why they removed possibilities that hindered no one and pleased some (ie : multi.sav cheat and "add unit").

Guys, I think Firaxis got the message by now. More whining isn't going to make them suddenly work overtime to create a 2nd patch with multi back. In the meantime, if you don't like it don't install it! It's that simple! And if you STILL want to cheat, or test mods, there's a whole new mod out already that just grays the black areas. Look in Completed Mods.

I think it's kinda funny that people are complaining about this. The multi cheat was never supose to be in the game it's just a big bug. Of all the things I expected faraxis to fix on the new patch (1.21) I knew this would be one of the top priorities. Was I the only one?

I don't play GOTM or other tournaments but things like the multi cheat destroy a players credibility, sure there are other ways to cheat too. I think people are just getting too spoiled, asking for a cheat mode. Back in the day I remember how we would make fun of all the spoiled kids who got their parents top buy them game genies.

Or maybe I'm just getting old (er).



Although to all you kids out there don't worry I'm sure firaxis will release a cheat mode in the future, they'll just make sure it's done properly.
