A woman in Vinkovci, Croatia shot a burglar (he broke in her home in half past two in the morning), and the police is accusing her for atempted murder! I HATE european self-defence and gun control laws!
BTW. The burglar was her daughter's junkie ex-boyfriend and a known criminal who broke in her home once allready 2 years ago. The woman had a gun permit.
Here's a link (but it's not in english, so most of you will have to trust me on this one):http://www.net.hr/crnakronika/page/2008/01/08/0484006.html

I'm pissed as hell!

What is the point of a gun permit if you cannot use it?

What's good? That someone can't defend themselves?
No, that people may be encouraged to give an intruder a chance to leave instead of just killing them.

If she had good cause to open fire I expect her to be acquitted. But it's not automatically wrong for the case to be brought.

In case its the truth, I am appalled.

Hard to tell without a translation of the article. Mere defense of property does not justify the use of deadly force, so it is really fact based on whether an attempted murder charge is valid here.

If someone breaks into your home, you should be allowed to use whatever force you wish to protect yourself and your family.

If that means a criminal ends up hurt or killed....well, they shouldn't have broken the law and endangered others.

In Texas you can be aquited even if you shot them when they were running away. God I love my state.

I have to make sure they are in the house when the cops show up. Or can at least prove they were in the house when I shot them.

That's really awful right there.

I don't think you should be able to kill someone just for breakig into your house. Most burglers will flee if disturbed. If they threaten you directly or are armed though shoot em dead.

Itseasy to replace a TV, not so easy to bring someone back to life.

But you would expect criminal preceedings to occur when someone dies, to make sure that things did go down the way the shooter says. Without a translation of the article we don't know if police really think she should be prosecuted, or if its just procedure.

There are lots of situations where the use of deadly force is inappropriate. If someone runs a red light and, say, damages your car, you're not entitled to shoot them dead just because they "shouldn't have broken the law in the first place." It's not black and white. This can't really be judged without the details.
