I bought a new laptop for uni in december, so i only play cv games on my laptop, everything else on my ps3.

However i have

intel core 2 duo 2.8GHz 6mb Cache
4GIG Ram
ATI Mobility radeon 4650 HD 1GB Dedicated card
Windows 7 64 Bit
Full HD 1080X1920

Do you think best guesses that i would be able to run CIV 5 in its full glory, looking at screen shots and guesses.

Whats everyones hardware there planning on using for it?

Well lets see the first release in detail, but I think should be quite close to it... :-)

BTW, don't use Win7 ;-)

Not to mention that within the next year or so I would say most the games being announced will not be running on dx9. Just cause 2 released its system specs this week and it requires DX10 and up, wont run on xp period.

BTW, don't use Win7 ;-)

Pray tell why ?
I find Windows 7 to be more stable and as resource light (if not lighter) than XP in both 32 and 64 bit flavors, even on older machines.

They did say something about DirectX 11. I think that rules out Windows XP doesn't it?

Nope. Just because a game can use DirectX 11 doesn't mean it can't also use DirectX 9. Two examples are Aliens vs. Predators and Dirt 2 - they can take advantage of DirectX 11 if you have it, but if you only have DirectX 9, no problem. They'll still run.

But I'd be quite surprised if Civilization V required DirectX 10 or 11, even if it does support them. It's one thing for a "hardcore" game to require a new system with a recent GPU by requiring DirectX 10 - most hardcore gamers will have such a rig. It's another thing for a game with a large appeal in the more casual crowd, such as Civ, to do so. Civ4 pushed the minimum hardware limits about as much as was wise to do in 2005, and I don't think Firaxis will push their luck even farther by making a game that won't run on half the systems out there at the time of its release purely because of the operating system.

To the OP: If Civ5 supports DirectX 11, you won't get all the glory, as that requires a Mobility Radeon 5000 card. Even if it doesn't, you may or may not get maximized details at full HD resolution. But you'll certainly be sailing pretty well either way.

I think there aren't any laptop VGA that has support directx11 aren't there? So does it mean that we wouldn't be able to play CIV 5 with laptop?

I think there is only one series of directx 11 cards on the market right now (ati 5000 series). I Agree with Quintillus's post...i highly doubt that civ5 will REQUIRE directx 11 given that most consumers hardware is directx 9 or 10.

That being said, directx 11 support as an option would be nice... And would be a great excuse to update my videocard!
