Did somebody actually tested to see how far this option makes the AI fall in tech pace if compared with tech brokering off?

I have tested it and gameplay is a lot better.I haven't noticed great differences about their tech speed, but i can say this option eliminate all exploits of standard tech trading and you find civs more differentiated in their tech level. It should be the standard tech trading option!

Ye OK, but is it trade something an exploit anyway? :crazyeye:
My question was if somebody tested with the option off and on and saw any significant difference.

They tech a bit slower as much as you because they can't trade everything, so the pace is slower but you shouldn't have any advantage over them with this option.

Does this affect colonies? One concern I have about starting a colony is that they can trade away your technical advantages. Presumably they wouldn't have researched the tech so they couldn't broker it?

i use to use no tech brokering and i actually liked it a lot since i am prone to accepting (forcing) mass vassals and or running a bunch of colonies, it's a nice way for me to use the ai bonuses at monarch to my advantage and it allows me to tech my vassals everything and not worry.

but i started using the hof mod and it won't allow it so i stopped..

This is one of the big advantage of tech brokering over normal tech trading.
If you gift a tech to a Vassal or Colony with this option your Vassal(Colony) will not (can't) trade the tech you have gifted them.So they become more useful.

I wholeheartedly agree.

I always chose this. Provides a nice balance between no tech trading which hurts the AI and the rampant tech merry go round otherwise.

If you gift a tech to somebody, can an enemy steal that tech from the recipient through espionage?

Yes, and if someone steals a tech from someone else, they can trade that tech away as if they researched it themselves.

Ok... I know this is going to sound Noobish but I have been playing Civ for like a decade. :) What is the difference between no brokering and no trading?

From what I can tell (the game provides a brief description when you highlight the option in the game set-up), Tech trading is what we're used to from the previous version where you can trade any tech you have. Tech brokering is different in that you can only trade techs you discovered yourself. So if you acquired a tech from the Mongols (did I just say the Mongols...haha), you can't turn around and trade it to the Aztecs under the brokering system.

No trading means you can't trade, period. No brokering means you can't trade techs that have been traded to you, only ones you researched/stole yourself.

to bad they didnt have another option to disable vassals from trading. I like to leave tech brokering on, because When I need war allies, and the only people who like me enough to goto war dont have astronomy... I fire up the tech lines make sure they got that and gun powder so they can atleast throw the enemy off.

The mod allows everything, it's just that your games with no tech brokering on will not be accepted in competitions for the hall of fame. Which might be what you're into? but I was under the impression you were merely using this mod to get better at civing..
