Any suggestions for map characteristics for Saladin (Pro/Spi) next week?

We should also start planning the next round. Previous requests mean we should have Louis (Cre/Ind) and Julius (Imp/Org) and 3 others, avoiding Spi which we doubled on the current round. Any suggestions for the other 3?

Maybe something dry and with a lot of sand?

We could try Oasis again, but we did that with Sally back in LXVII. Something else with an Arid setting? or is that too food-poor to be fun?

Arid inland sea gives some crazy maps with tons of floodplains. Never played one, might be a bit unbalanced or too unhealthy... Otoh, with four early specialist slots, maybe all that food could lead to some interesting gameplay..

Stay away from Boreal or jungle maps. Seeing how the AI doesn't chop that much they are totally handicapped. Might as well be playing 2 levels easier.

We did inland sea with Gandi last round, but conventionally can do one "unusual" map per round and it sounds like arid inland sea is sufficiently different. I'd be willing to consider it. We did Boreal once, and that once might be enough.

Swamped today. I hope to get Saladin up late in the day, but most likely it'll be tomorrow.

Regarding the next round, how about

• Julius Caesar (Imp/Org)
• Louis XIV (Cre/Ind)
• Boudica (Agg/Cha)
• Pacal II (Exp/Fin)
• Sitting Bull (Phi/Pro)

The first two are required by prior request, but the others could change. Order can change, too, particularly reversing Louis and JC if that's important to anyone.

I've been ill all weekend. No way I'm going to get Saladin done this week. Sorry. Anybody else want to give mapmaking a try?

Given the way my health has been going I have to spend all my brainpower on other things. This may persist for a while. So we need more volunteers lest his series go on hiatus until my situation improves.

I could put together a map tonight. Do we still want to go with the crazy arid inland sea? Don't have time to test how it plays out... Or should I take the safer fractal map? Actually I have a quite nice fractal map ready to go, in case that's okay.

Fractal is better -- we did inland see relatively recently.

I've moved the list of leaders for the next round into the first message. Should we go for Caesar Friday next week (Feb 6), with a slightly shorter time for Saladin than usual, or the week after (Feb 13) so we have a full 2 weeks and more for the current map?

I prefer making sure there is a full 2 weeks between maps, I can do the next one if you want.

I will have some relief from work pressures during the week before Louis (Cre/Ind) is due (27 Feb) so I've put my name beside that one. Let me know if you're willing to make a map for one of the leaders after that, because work will gear up again for several weeks after that.
