Noble's Club CXXXII: Gandhi of India

I put my espionage points on the one that I thought would skyrocket in techs as he usually does. But for some reason he's lagging behind his usual pace.

Spoiler :
Sury is poisoning your wells? He never struck me as a good techer, Darius is pretty good but he just got squashed between me and Genghis in my game

Spoiler :
Sury is a pretty strong techer on Deity. He's in the discussion for the best and most dangerous AI leader on Deity. He expands ridiculously fast, has huge pop cities, techs reasonably well, doesn't do anything hilariously stupid like some of the AI (isolationist toku), and is just aggressive enough to be a big threat militarily without being an overzealous warmonger.

Spoiler :
Yeah I think it's him that's messing with me. He's a pretty good techer, but Darius is even stronger so I put my points on him. In my last inland sea game (as Gandhi, too) he got to Cuirassiers in the 600's, which is pretty crazy even for Deity.

2000BC Deity
Spoiler :
Barb rush of doom on deity. Went AG-> TW-> Hunting-> Archery and spammed Archers and went for double gold/corn for a 2nd city, while teching BW. After i saw the copper i got very annoyed, cause it doesn't go well with SIP, because you need a Border Pop to grab it and Archers are not a very got longterm defense on this kind of map.

Spoiler :
Fair enough. I would never play Deity I'd get destroyed haha. But I can see where you're coming from, Sury is moderate enough to be sensible and I guess at the highest level that does make him a considerable threat. CRE and EXP (I think he is) equals quickly expanding higher pop cities.

@Strickl3r:
Spoiler :
I take it you had a bad times with barbs? There's no shame in taking a restart. I managed to deal with barbs with little trouble by going AG -> Hunting -> Archery -> BW -> Wheel -> Pottery. My 1st warrior fortified on a forest the SE part of the map to stop barbs from spawning in that region.

I put mine on Darius, but he decided to steal my land before Sury and ended up as my first target and I switched my points to Zara. At 700 AD, I've capped Darius and I'm not sure If I should attack Sury to have a buffer on both sides or else go after Izzy to prepare to flank Genghis.

I don't know what difficulty you play on but how do you plan on appeasing Genghis when you control the land on both directions north and east? I find he is impossible to not go to war with eventually.

My game quickly turned into Jews (Sury had a Jewish/Hindu double holy city) vs Buddhists (Isabella), me Nappy and Sury as Jewish vs the rest. well that's what I thought would happen until Genghis declared on Darius and Izzy. He is completely insane.

Going Archery that early on this map, even before hooking up a way to the 2nd city spot is defenitly a good option. As i said even with map knowledge, because the copper spot is delayed, if you SIP(you can't get fish+copper, with copper in the first ring if you SIP) there is no way you can't go Archery

After 4 or 5 turns I realized....

Spoiler :
not only is this inland sea, but we are also in the corner. Barbs are gonna be horrible. I'd rather not do it but I'm going straight to archery after Ag

Good job on posting the game, pomthom! :goodjob:

Unlikely I'll have time for it though.

Good luck all!

Spoiler :
I also went for the GW as opposed to teching Archery. By settling the stone city before the gold you can get it built just as the first wave of archers descends.

The only reason I went for this as opposed to Archery was because we don't start with Hunting, and I'm going to want Mono sooner rather than later anyways for Wonder building.

I'm playing on Imm and I think I should be safe for Cultural. I'm same religion as Sury and Darius isn't the hardest to get along with it, even if my Confuc spreads to him before Judaism.

My second ever Immortal win is a 1919 diplo through military might.
Spoiler :
Decided to attack Darius with cuirs/cavalry. It turned out to be a costly war but i manged to come out on top and cap him. By the time I was finished with that war I had assembly line. Next I began Industrializing when Ghengis Kahn with his vassaling Izzie declared on me. Luckily I had mining Inc as well as Arty and was able to annihilate his stack with Inf/arty. Fought him down to about three cities, capped him capped Izzy and prepared to stop Surry's cultural shenanigans. At that point nothing could stop me with an 18 hammer mining Inc.

Spoiler :
This is immortal. I don't plan on appeasing him, not in the long run anyway. My reason for conquering both of his neighbors first is to box him in as a strategic advantage.

Turn 100 (375BC) prince, no huts

Spoiler :
Things seem to be cooking along ok, I'm still in the expansion phase while everyone is still neutral and feeling each other out. In a race with Darius to secure the marble, I did settle on the coast north of him to grab some of the fps. People aren't trading techs, and not very many wonders have gone. I'm thinking once I have the marble I can start thinking about wonders, kind of late for Oracle.

Question is how do I best leverage PHI? Should I aim for parthanon and switch out of slavery? I love the whip so much though.

Spoiler :
That's not necessary. If you can build libraries in three cities and run scientists, they'll pop out like baby rabbits. Or build the great library if you have the marble.

@marasaid: good leverage for phi is pyramids. why? allows all government civics which allow you to run early representation. Rep adds +3 :science: to all specialists. This strategy combined with caste system(if you're in a position to stop running slavery) is an extremely powerful combination provided that you city placements include good food.

Another thing to try is Shwedagon Paya. Unlocks all religious civics allowing you to run philosophy. this also requires you to be running a religion and make sure the that religion is in the city that is turning out great people(Gp farm).

parthenon is definitely a good one to go for too with the phi trait. All of the things i've mentioned above are great ways to leverage the PHI trait. Like always don't neglect expansion for wonders and most important don't neglect you're military.

SPaya is no good; most of the time you go for Philo bulb anyways, and that still in BC's - with PHI should be even sooner, and with it you unlock Pacifism right about time you want it; when your base empire is set up and when you can afford running enough specs without starving your cities for Pacifism to make a difference.

Hi everyone, i havnt started but spoiler for map in here
