space race 1947
Spoiler :

peace and prosperity came toward warlike Ottoman people

1858 - 2nd golden age in succession, (US, FS, CS, FM, Pa)
1866 - Mining Inc.
1872 - Cereal Mills, (same food for less cost then Sushi)
1890 - Broadway
1908 - TGD
1910 - Eiffel tower
1912 - Cristo Redentor, (US, FS, Em, FM, FR)
1913 - Appollo program
- Jao DoW, small invasio is thwarted
- Both corps spread to every city, 90% slider
1917 - RaR
1929 - Fusion, 3rd golden age, SS dock, thrusters, casings, cockpit complete
1936 - Internet (got flight, fascism)
1937 - all SS parts complete (engines were actually 4T, but lagged on stasis chamber)

@Archon, Capellan
thanks for endgame tips, I did utilize them.
I didn't really MM the corps benefits, and 100% slider. If I did that, I could have won a bit sooner I guess

thanks for the scenario, it was fun trying a large map with so many civilizations and something different for a change

Well done, Nicol :)

Spoiler :
Micromanaging a space race must be very tedious...
I haven't played further than the last save I posted. I guess I would try to go for space as well, if I were to keep on playing this map.

Spoiler :
well thats why I didn't really micromanage anything....
workers were just auto networking, except 1 group of 4, to optimize here and there ... all I could bare.
all the cities could use some massive food reduction, but I didn't really care.

I managed production ques via copying ques in newer cities,
and by ctrl-shift- adding buildings to all cities via capital city que
(how to spell ques... grammar check underlines it)

SS production was just assigned to top city in basic hammers list

executives were automated....
and I didn't bother about optimizing the extra food.
prioritize hammers empire wide got rid of spy specialists....

I had one city auto-build modern armor, and fortifying it every turn was very annoying, so I stopped that too

so in the end I only micromanaged 1 group of workers and my pet city - Moscow
final bill was almost 20 hours....

Actually, I was going for a Space Race, but apparently my population plus popularity gave me the Diplo win. Part of this was due to Cyrus extorting Medicine(?). Since it wasn't a military tech, I decided the diplomatic bonus would be worth it and it was.

Rameses built almost all the late-game wonders, including the UN, although I had the population to dominate it even from the turn he completed it. However, I did get the Pentagon and 3 Gorges Dam, which are the wonders I really want in the late game.

The game was almost constant warfare from 1850 AD when my belated offensive against the Khmer began. Unfortunately, Suri had vassaled to Zara by the time I was ready. I went for it anyway, since I usually err on the side of caution and so might not have attacked for a long time if I followed my usual habit. The force was sufficient for a two front war, but it did eat up my reserves quickly, so after two quick conquests, there was some sparring as new garrison forces and siege were brought to the front. Eventually, both Suri and Zara were driven from the continent: the former became a vassal, the other was destroyed.

The second war was against Brennus at the request of Justinian. There were sufficient transports and troops to start an offensive even while building SS parts, so I decided the diplo bonus would be worth it. Justinian did vote for me for the win, so I guess it was. Had the game gone on, I would have been annoyed since Brennus vassaled to Justinian and not me despite the difference in damage inflicted. Typical screw the human behavior.

First off, nice win. It sounds like you learned a little about how to get and use diplo bonuses, which is something that has taken me a while to catch onto.

I do have a question, though: why build the Pentagon? I get the 3GD, since power helps boost your production (and lowers :yuck: in cities where you already have coal plants).

But if you're going for space, the Pentagon isn't much benefit. Obviously, you ended up warring a far amount, so you probably got some benefit from it. Still, I'll bet those hammers probably could have been spent better, perhaps on a few more units or even just a few turns of :gold:.

After the late rush in the real game, I wondered if I would have been better off REXing, thus this experiment. To limit the advantage of foreknowledge to some extent, I tried to explore in the same manner as I did in the original game (to the East and South, not to the West until later).
Spoiler :

T46: Built Edirne in the same place as the first game for the same reason (Copper) at about the same time, so no gain there.
T?: Built Ankara to claim Horse and maybe Marble, although St Petersburg had already claimed the Marble. (Eventually, Ankara's culture would push back Russian influence.)
T78: Built Bursa to block Cathy, even if there were no resources.
Spoiler :

T87: Konya founded for Clams and Dye
Spoiler :

T101: Samsun built to get Iron and Marble.
Spoiler :

T118: Founded Buddhism in Ankara by researching CoL! That's a big change and for the better I think. No one will trade Meditation so I have to research it.
T123: Gaziantep in the south for Sheep and Clams.
Spoiler :

T130: Diyarbakir to the west of Istanbul for Horse, Gems and Clams.
Spoiler :

As of 500 AD, the Ottoman Empire is third in power (and importantly, stronger than Cathy). It has eight cities, which is one more than I had at this time in the first game.
Spoiler :

My conclusion is that at least with an Imperialist leader, REXing is better than a rush. I'll play a little further to see if I can build HG and the GL without Cathy DoWing me, which would mean I'd have to stop and build units instead.

Spoiler :
Thank you. This game I was more conscious of Diplomacy since there were so many AIs. Often I blow all the AIs off and so I have no firm friends, thus a Diplomatic victory is unlikely. I'm trying to keep "Triangle Diplomacy" in mind (the article is in the War Academy), as well as [Somebody]'s high-level game where he played all the AIs against each other, thus avoiding the dogpile or peacevassaling to other AIs. Thus he was able to conquer each in turn since the AIs were too busy fighting to assist each other. It was a very informative thread on diplomacy, but I can't remember who wrote it.

Re: Pentagon: Yes, you're right. Originally, my goal was Domination so Pentagon made sense then. However, when I decided there wasn't enough time left in the game for domination, I changed my mind. I probably could have gotten an earlier Space victory if I had not built it, and had not gone to war with Brennus, even if I was mainly using my reserves for that war.

Spoiler :
Thank you. I've downloaded it as well as the Boudica NC game. I might go with Boudica since that one is on global highlands and I like global highlands maps. IIRC, you are playing in reverse order, so you haven't gotten to Boudica yet.

Move the tiles to the north, one to the east to claim the two gems, pig, corn, wheat,& marble. Imay have lost three turns to claim the site, but it was worth it. The capitol will be amazing. I settle a city directly to the west to claim a gems in a forest and a clam. I then settle a city directly to the south, and then one more to the west of theat city. The russians being as close as they are concern me, so ill probably kill them off in the midieval era, using swords and catupults. I'll probably drop two more cities before I begin to prepare for war.

Spoiler :
one fix you did wrong in both games is the placing of iron/marble city. Konya in
2nd, ?akara in 1st.

in both cases the city had no food resource apart from forested grasslands, meaning very slow initial growth, not being able to work those tiles, and not amazing growth later

most people solved the iron/marble puzzle exactly like I did, as a coastal city with floodplain to support the resource tiles:
gaziantep

I don't really see the capital city, so I don't know whether you settled in place this time or not, whether that 2T was worth it in your opinion in 1st attempt or not.
also it seems the mod you are usinf shuffles around jungles and forests, I noticed this several times now, since the gems were jungled, which is quite a different story for SIP considerations

Spoiler :
The point of the replay was to keep conditions as close as possible to the original game so I did move up to the gems. Starting in a different place would have invalidated the experiment. The major change was not rushing, and the results were better the second time around. (Playing further resulted in a DoW from Alex, but I still built the GL and HG, so it was still going better. Have quit to play NC 59 Boudica though.)

As for the loss of two turns, it was worth it in both games to get access to the Gems with a food-rich capital since it became a Super Science City [SSC] and Great Scientist farm.

Additionally, I am using BUG and the gems were in jungle both times: perhaps your monitor is too dark.

Okay, I see you got the iron and marble by settling on the coast, and so getting guarenteed two food for many tiles.

Culture Victory. 1981
Spoiler :

Didn't really have that many wonders. My third city didn't have any GWs. My second city became the holy city of Christianity and got the Hagia Sophia. I essentially got the culture win by eventually getting six religions in my third city, building the Cathedrals/Mosques/Synagogues/etc. and spamming great artists.

This game also had the biggest fail I've seen in an AI. Monty on the second continent launches an overseas invasion of Alex and has Shaka in tow. Alex is my vassal, as was Cathy. In addition, I have MPPs with Zara Yaqob, and Cyrus on the third continent. Zara has Suryavarman for a vassal. I had founded Christianity and had spread it thruout the home continent, so we were all friends. And it wasn't like Monty was the military superpower of the world, either, being technologically backward.

Sorry about the lack of screenies

1765AD deity space victory. Settled on the marble. First time I tried an engineering rush; went pretty well, I'd say. Oracle MC -> use GE to bulb machinery -> use GS to bulb engineering. Then lib astro and tech steel to secure my continent.

Failure. Noble/Normal.

Spoiler :

Obviously, I don't know how to Chariots rush on this level. Didn't got enough number (4?) of Chariots to take out her 2 archers around turn 42? Rage-quit. And will try a warrior rush again.
