I think trillian (sp?) might be free. It integrates all three yahoo, hotmail, and I think IRC or IRQ accounts or something like that into one client. :)

nope thats not what im looking for im looking for a good (not ICQ like (i ditched it when the put the adds and spyware in)) free messaging service that does not depend on msn or yahoo

if any one wants to know why i want to change its because im trying to stop my dependbility on all Microsoft products also i dont want yahoo no pop or imap access

thanks any way muppet

Trillian also supports AIM and does both ICQ and IRC. And if you have pro edition you can grab the Jabber plugin.

He's not talking about merger clients, I think. He wants a free messenging service that has mail as well as a messenger.

Unfortuanenly, if that's what you want, Yahoo and Hotmail are the two most popular and will have your friends, etc. on it.

Click on the pics to download them. In order: odigo, igo incognito, PSST (secure encrypted ip to ip isntant messaging, probably for paranoid anti big bro echelon cia kgb guys ;)), Paltalk and Devil Messenger.

Of course all are specific protocols and nothing compatible with MSN yahoo nor anything standard.

PS: damn me! Of course I forgot the exciting skype, from the programmers of Kazaa. It's quite low bandwidth consuming btw. I tested it while playing and hosting a warcraft 3 game!

Skype seems to be the most promising.

are you still using windows?
linux usually has mirror image programs of windows stuff :)
and if you're trying to get away from microsoft dependancy, windows is the big one you have to get away from :)

Im going to get linux installed when i get my video card sorted out(the ram on it appears to be faulty) then i will use as many of the programmes on linux as i learn how to use them and migrate that way

one of the most important things though is web mail with pop enabled as i hate using a browser to check my mail i like to download it

i think one of the last things i will use on linux will be games but still then eventually ill use them on linux as well
