im playing on marla's world map as the French.

If i play a normal random map everything works fine but if i play on marla's world map my cavalry never ever retreat.

from a game going from ancient age to the modern age Not a single unit ever retreated....

lol and yes i was in battles.. i took over all of europe, russia, africa, egypt area, and most of asia. not a single unit ever retreated. this gave me some bad times while in war cuz a dmged unit was never left over to repair ever really... :(

could someone check this out please? thanks

I know that with the 1.21 patch there were changes tot eh way units retreat. Perhaps this has been affected by Marla's map mod. I know that in a couple of other mods I play some of the other things have been changed and do not work the same.
Assuming you are using the 1.21 patch you might want to download the latest version of Marla's map. Just a thought.

heh yea i shoulda said what patch i had and the such...

i have 1.21 of civ.
and latest version of marla's

:/

its really a shame cuz i love retreating but cant use it on a great map like marla's

You can get it somewhere in the Creation and Customization threads. It would either be under Completed Modpacks or either of the Maps sections.

sigh where might i go to post about this problem and someone that has knowledge of how to fix it?

:(

With previous patches, faster units ALWAYS retreated. This was changed, so that there is now a chance that faster units will not retreat every time. Units must have a movement point left to retreat, so if Cavalry enters enemy territory on a hill, then attacks a city with it's last movement point, it will never retreat.

I do not know about effects modded maps may have on this.

There are (I think) 3 situations under which a fast unit will not retreat:

(1) Combat against another fast unit
(2) The other unit is down to its last HP (in the red)
(3) When attacking, if the attacker has no movement points left

I have a feeling that there may be a fourth (that Elite units NEVER retreat), but I'm not entirely certain - I don't recall seeing one retreat, but I may have missed something)
