North American Union Capital?

New York City, the capital of the world, and the most important city on the planet.

New York City, the capital of the world, and the most important city on the planet.

Let's hope some Chinese or Japanese city doesn't take that role at some point...

(Of course, we have the one-size-fits all solution: suitcase nukes! :D)

But yes, seriously, NYC certainly does have an advantage over other cities.

And not just because I'm a New Yorker living in this desert hellhole.

It also has history behind it as a capital city!

It'd probably be more debatable though if Mexico and Central America were brought into the NAU due to how far north it is.

And it was deemed so bad that the government moved to DC.

Well aware. Doesn't change my view at all.

This is the modern era! We shall find a way to make New York the super-capital!

Alternatively. Create a floating city over New York City.

We need a new national achievement anyway to awe the world. Dubai can take its tower and shove it!

Portland honestly wouldn't make a bad location.

What about a new city in the middle of the midwest though? Starting from scratch with flatland could make for some very incredible architecture.

Indeed. Could erect buildings in no time if we workshop the BFC and adopt State Property. Might not go over well with some, though.

In all seriousness, we also have to take the Caribbean into account, assuming we consider them North American. Gulf Coast somewhere? Will have to watch out for future spills.

No it was agreed upon at the Constitutional Convention that an independent federal district should be created for use as the capital. The Pennsylvania Mutiny of 1783 made this abundantly clear.
Aaaaand they agreed on that because New York sucked too badly to be the actual national capital WE'VE BEEN OVER THIS ALREADY

Pendragon!

Aru Haru Buritaniya!

New Orleans.

It's a good spot on the continent tbh, too bad it's so vulnerable to simple flooding.

I have a new idea for you guys. I don't really think there is an appropriate city to act as capital for a joint Canada-USA-Mexican state. So how about we create a new capital like Brazil did?

Where would be the location of this new capital?

No they agreed upon it because of the Pennsylvania Mutiny of 1783. Which I just said in my previous post?

No, that just made it easier to swallow, silly New Yorker

I honestly don't think it would be DC. DC will remain the head of the united states if it happens, but it's too far North to be centralized enough me thinks. Moving it closer to Mexico would have an effect on the corruption though.

Wait, why don't we just build a forbidden palace?

Wrong, all wrong. The Mexican and Central American territories have too many desert, mountain, jungle and coastal areas to ever be useful as production centers. The capital goes somewhere in the eastern section of the midwest, and the forbidden palace in Oregon or Northern California.

Nowhere. The US would never accept one outside the US, and the rest of North America would never accept one in the US. If such a Union were created, it would likely have no official capital and several meeting places in various countries.

Couple questions, that could change that:
What is "North America" in this hypothetical Union? Canada & US or does it include Mexico, Central America, Carribean, Greenland?
How is this formed? It it started with just Canada and the US (with potential expansion South), then some place carved out of the Canada-US border may work, or the opposite if it started in Central America of the Carribean. Was it peaceful or through force and coersion? That could allow for Washington or some other American city.

In Any case, I doubt it could ever happen, the US would be just to dominant (far, far more so that German in the EU) for any other country to accept.

Seconded for San Francisco. We're diverse, we're international, we're centrally located, people want to come here, it's a major economic and trading hub, and the UN was founded here.

London. The NAU would, of course, be a province, along with Greater Australia, Hindustan and the African Territories, of the British Empire ;).

To avoid a spam flag: New York. On the world stage it's by far the most important, developed and generally shiny city on the continent. Centralisation isn't really an issue; Moscow is the capital of Russia for crying out loud.
