NOTW Information Thread

I think this is simply a case of this not being an archived forum. Previously we have been lucky in that the right to purge old threads in this forum hasn't been exercised, but I think with the recent database problems someone simply thought it was due. I notice that Kael's original NotW, which was run in the FfH forum, is still there.

I should note that this is pure conjecture on my part, but I would be surprised if this wasn't the truth of it.

EDIT : Pinman's NotW XIX is only 364Ko in text format. And it took less than 2 seconds. Seriously guys, why didn't you warn us ?

To be fair, TF couldn't really warn anyone. The forum was down and no-one could post in Forum Games - I was editing the first post of EPYC when it went down, and it just sorta... disappeared, when I pressed 'Save Changes' or whatever that button's called. People couldn't read the first posts of threads, and when I tried to post in Site Feedback that post got eaten as well, so I guess you couldn't post anywhere.

A warning beforehand that this was the final solution to such a database problem would've been nice, but come on, how could TF, or Padma or ainwood or anyone, have seen this coming?

That thread download tool is pretty spiffy. I tried downloading thomas's NotW XXI and it really looks very good.

If I'm understanding this correctly ... It isn't so much the size of the thread but rather the number of threads. Whatever table that kept track of the posts reached its maximum size. No more posts could be made until that table was smaller. It would have been nice to get rid of the spam posts instead, but pruning Forum Games was probably just much faster. My 2¢ ...

EDIT : You should also check Pinamn's game if you have the time (NotW XIX), it was really good too and lots of stuff were happening in the thread, so it makes for an interesting read.

That's not the point I was trying to make. My apologies for the confusion, but I was trying to answer the question of "why didn't they warn us" as opposed to "why did they choose this forum". I believe there was no warning because nobody could post and the site was down. Mass pruning of a forum was an expedient way to get the site back up. But to your point, yes, they probably did choose this forum because it was non-PC.



On a different note, I've been doing some digging in the Internet Archives. Unfortunately, they don't have much. I did find something on NOTW II from Sept '07. Unfortunately, only the first page of the thread was archived. And nothing from CFC has been archived since Oct of '07.

But, I did find a copy of the UgLe Forum Games Homepage. For those not familiar with UgLe, this is where Unser Giftzwerg did an excellent job documenting the rules for NOTW and its mafia variants.
