Now that I have a non-bad computer, suggest some scenarios/mods :)

Definitely try Anthony's mod now that you have a computer that can handle it. I would also suggest meteorman's "Overlord" scenarios. And finally Civinator's mod is worth a try.

Ahh, MEM (or rather MEM2), a timeless classic. Probably one of my most played Civ3 mods.

I also highly recommend "The Desert and the Dragon" by Plotinus for a more scenario-based mod (personally recommendation: play the 4 MP scenarios first before playing the grand one), and, as Moff Jerjerrod says, Anthony Boscia's 1989 scenario - but make sure to bring enough time. :D

Ahem... @Plotinus' 2 major mods got bit mixed up there.

The Desert & The Mountain is brilliant. I replayed that one last month as Beta Israel, Emperor diff, lost on VPs on the 300th turn (of 300).

I also have The Rood + The Dragon installed on the desktop, but -- although I've read good things about it -- I don't think I've ever given that one a proper go, to my shame.

@Kyriakos, shuuurely you must already have installed/ played The Ancient Mediterranean? Doesn't that one use some of your own city-sets? Even if not, it should still be right up your alley...

Now I want to play The Desert and The Dragon. It sounds great!
Yes, this seems to be a great combination scenario. :D

Plotinus, it is great to see you here again. I still have a lot of fun with all your brilliant units you have created. Thank you very much for all your great work you have done for Civ 3 and CFC!

:thanx:

Sorry, my mind wandered off there. I was referring to The Desert and the Mountain, of course. The Rood and the Dragon is also good, and I did think about suggesting it as well, so my mind mixed stuff up there while writing. :D

I couldn't make CivIII (Complete) run on my screen resolution. The ini file wasn't even there (not even after I run the game a few times), and when I manually created an ini file (it works as ini) the program simply didn't take account of the Keepres=1 line at all.
Anyone managed to get it to work with new screen resolution on windows 11?

There are some good tips for running Civ III on modern machines in this thread:

Hopefully you can find a solution that will work for you...

What was the fix for you? So that info is preserved for people searching for a fix later in the future, that might find this post. :)

A combination of:
-not saving in the program files folder (at least until you've run the game once; otherwise the ini file may not appear), as the ini needs to be edited so as to have the keepres=1 line anyway.
-dling indirectsound for the diplo screen sound issues
-running the program in compatibility mode (win xp etc)
Not allowing advanced DPI was optional, I didn't use it.
