Just make sure to capture everything really fast (i.e. have marines and transports filled with armor on standby, and use paratroopers) after you nuke somebody. Or just be more advanced than everyone. As long as the enemy can't nuke you back (or can only nuke you back a few times), you will be fine. Note that all AI players are your enemy when you do a first strike, and plan accordingly.
Nuclear explosions may churn fertile cropland out of sea, or lush floodplains from less verdant plains. These feed the people, and the people rejoice and increase their families. Thus nuclear fireballs cause babies.
Because of their nature there are not much advantages to use nuclear weapons. Just compare them to the real world to realize that.
In the real world they were used only once (Hiroshima and the other Japeness city no one can remember the name) and brang the ennemy to capitulate by showing a great technologic advance. But actually they killed a lot of civiliants and no militaries at all, and did not gave any military benefits other than showing 'hey we are better equiped than you are' (that must be why they are called Nukes
In the game they are just like larger bombarding weapons, but because of their nature every other nations will hate you after you used them. I don't see how you could use them unless you are planning for a Conquest victory, where the goal is to destroy anyone else.
Yeah it was, and they were used because no other nation had em. Which fits with what I said, make sure you are most advanced, or make sure you don't leave any foreign ICBMs after you're done with your turn.
The benefits of nuke:
1. Destroy a whole stack of units (especailly on heavily defended metropolis)
2. Isolate a city from resources
3. Reduce a city population
4. Enhance global warming and turn the world into a desert.
5. Wipe out existing government so that I can rule the world
4. Enhance global warming and turn the world into a desert.
Seriously? That is implemented in the game? I didn't know that! (And they call that the Cold War? )
I'm yet to experiment on the result of a game where technologie level is so advanced globally and the nuclear weapons so common that a war occurs where all civs are throwing ICBMs at each others. I wonder what would be the result, how long would the war last, and who would win it (in Conquest Victory type of course).
