Hi everyone,

how do place tactical nukes on submarines? I have the option to relocate the nuke, but when i put my cursor over my sub it stays grey!?! Also can you put guided missiles on subs? If yes i've got the same probleme here.

Thank for your help

Move your sub into the city then click on the missile, and the "load" option should be available with a list of subs/ships the missile can be loaded onto.

thanks, it worked

I've got another question.

I'm in the middle of what we can call a "cold war". There's high tension between me and another civ, and we both have a nuclear arsenal. It's just a mather of time before one of us declare war on each other... here's my question; if I launch my nukes first on the cities where he keeps his icbms, will it destroy his nukes?

Thamks again

It didn't in Civ 3, and I don't think it does in Civ IV, either. That would seem to me to be very unbalanced.

Yeah, that'd be pretty unfair. Plus, aren't nuclear weapons kept underground safe and sound anyway?

No, but if you follow up with conventional forces in the same round and take the city, you will destroy them.

I always find nukes are wasted if they are not used in conjunction with ground forces.

An easy trick to get cities that are inland and far away, which hold nukes, is to have a few boatloads of marines, and some tanks with the commando promotion, which lets them use enemy roads, or perhaps some helicopters. You hit a coastal city and your target city (cities) with nukes, take the coastal city with the marines, land your transports, unload the tanks/helicopters, and proceed inland to the target city (cities). All in the same round, before he gets a chance to retaliate.

Well, the point of a preamtive nuclear strike is to eliminate or seriously cripple the enemy nuclear capability so that the retaliation would be minimal...

This change my strategy... I don't think I want to start this war (even if it seem inevitable) if my enemy will be able to retaliate with full force! What a dillema!

Damn, I've got a huge Army, but him to... I'll never be able to pull that one before he launches his shitload of nukes on my citizens! Maybe against a small civ but not against this fellow!

And if the SDI is around, there's no guarantee enough ICBM's will get through. ;)
Unless, of course, you're using tactical nukes for the nearby targets. Those have an increased chance IIRC.

Agreed, and also with bomb shelters in your most important cities, the threat of ICBMs is pretty much eradicated.

However I did notice that you can use tactical nukes on your own soil which makes them fantastic for eliminating invading enemy forces - two tactical nukes and the entire stack is destroyed.
