... but the public does not.

From the Rasmussen Reports Website...

"Wednesday, February 04, 2009
Support for the economic recovery plan working its way through Congress has fallen again this week. For the first time, a plurality of voters nationwide oppose the $800-billion-plus plan.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that 37% favor the legislation, 43% are opposed, and 20% are not sure.

Two weeks ago, 45% supported the plan. Last week, 42% supported it.

Opposition has grown from 34% two weeks ago to 39% last week and 43% today."

I get so tired of being lied to by these clones or clowns or whatever they are. :mischief:

Yeah, I'd feel the same way if I were an American. These republicans with their lies creating fear of doom and gloom about what will happen to the economy with this stimulus plan.

But there's silver lining. At least they're not in charge anymore.

edit: "Obama and other Democrats continue to say the public wants the stimulus" Mind providing a quote or something?

And here's your source: http://www.rasmussenreports.com/pub...kage/support_for_stimulus_package_falls_to_37

Most Americans believe that a dollar of tax cuts is better for the economy than a dollar of government spending.
It;s really odd that many people think: "It's good for the economy if I have to pay less taxes". Really remarkable :mischief:

At least they're not in charge anymore.

They will be in 2012 my friend.

One day earlier, shiny graphs when you click the link
Americans Support Stimulus, but Many Want Major Changes

PRINCETON, NJ -- A strong majority of Americans (75%) want Congress to pass some version of President Obama's economic stimulus plan, but this group is split down the middle on whether it should be passed as is or with major changes.

[...]

Naturally, support for the plan is highly partisan. Although few Republicans favor passing the plan as it is, more than 4 out of 10 say it should be passed with major changes, leaving only a minority of 35% of Republicans who say the plan should be rejected altogether. A majority of Democrats, on the other hand, say Obama's plan should be passed as is. Independents mirror the attitudes of the nation as a whole, split down the middle about passing it as is or with major changes.

[...]

Moreover, Americans have fairly low expectations for the plan's ability to turn around the economy. Just 17% say the plan would make the economy a lot better, while another 47% say it would make the economy a little better. Seventeen percent (including more than a third of Republicans) go so far as to say the plan would make the economy worse.

I totally support the stimulus as long as my slush-puppy machine buying venture is funded in full by the government.

It's better than sitting on our hands and doing nothing but watch the economy go down further in the toilet.

It's important we look at the ulterior benefits of passing a stimulus bill. It keeps politicians employed, albeit temporarily. Certainly the objective of our time right now is to remain employed. With that said;

We have two choices:

1. Continue to inflate our economies like Japan did the last decade. This makes for a long and strung-out recession.

2. Do not provide stimulus, suffer immediate job losses, and force a significant change in the economic system.

Its obvious that whether the public likes it or not, the second option is not going to happen.

The Demorats are and always have been pulling the wool over our eyes. Don't be fooled by their attempts to get us into a mountain of debt. Two years and Republicans will have the majority.

maybe it's one of those things you want even if you think you don't want it. Like when you're a kid and you hate getting vaccinations, but now you're an adult and you're glad you never got polio:crazyeye:

Umm, okay Lucky and VX. Really tough to spin this against the Dems since El Bushie was running the show and this mess happened on his watch. Both parties can take a ton of blame.

The republicans are nowhere near a majority party right now, as they are concentrated in the south (for House Representation) and mostly so in the Senate. They can't get the majority back in all likelihood in 2 years. That's dreaming.

No one likes the stimulus idea, because no one has a clue what to do. What we do know is that we're sick, and we're miserable. So we're going to OD on medication and get some rest and hope we feel better tomorrow

Polling has been highly erratic between firms.

President Obama receives a 67% approval rating for his handling of the government’s efforts to pass an economic stimulus bill, compared to 31% for the Republicans in Congress. A majority of Americans (51%) agree that passing such a bill is critically important to improving the nation’s economy.

Are you gonna pay people in this thread $100.-- each if it isn't so? :mischief:
Sure, we'll all be paying in Zimbabwe dollars by that time anyway. Just this week I found a trillion laying under the bench at the park... someone must have just left his wallet there and the bill fell out.

The Demorats are and always have been pulling the wool over our eyes. Don't be fooled by their attempts to get us into a mountain of debt. Two years and Republicans will have the majority.

That's pretty much mathematically impossible.

Of course the public doesn't like the stimulus plan. It sucks, and everyone knows it. But doing nothing also sucks, and everyone knows that too. So since nobody knows how to get us out of where we are, we're going to go with the opposite of what Hoover did and hope it works out for the best.

To be honest, why should the public have a say in these matters anyway?

What does average joe know about economic theory?
