    Hello, Sir!
I asked my Latin teacher about odeons and she told me that odeons were a Roman invention. How they're a GREEK UB in Civ4, this makes no sense now.

You take the word of your LATIN teacher when claiming something is a roman invention? :p

They should have made the Greek UB be a replacement for the University, called The Academy. That is kind of off topic though I guess.

This should solve the debate though:

Spartans came before the Roman Empire :p

I will break down and cry if they change the Odeon. I'm in love with it exactly as it is.

I agree the Odeon as is in the game is a pretty cool UB, but I am talking about principles. The Academy was a more historically significant thing than the Odeon in Greece, although it is nice to see something Spartan here.

Odeons were certainly not a roman invention.

Odeons were built all over modern turky, middle east and persia after Alexander the Great conquered these areas.

Nailed straight on the head. Odeons are very Greek. Even Parthians indulged in Greek tragedy from time-to-time...and watched it in Greek-style odeons to boot....

You'll tell your teacher that it's not because there are Odeons in the Roman empire that it means they created them. Romans have conquered many territories and stolen some knowledge, including the greek odeons.

The first greek odeon (Athens) was built about 400 years before the first roman one. Oh yes, and it's "some random guy" named Pericles who lead the construction

Damn, you sure about it being in Athens then? Its just that that would mean wikipedia was wrong....

Not that it is extremely unlikely that wikipedia has mislead us, but just that I was happy that they at least included SOMETHING uniquely Spartan for the Greeks, since there are no Spartan leaders.

Maybe they should rename Alexander to Leonidas since he is Spartan (thus Greek) and Alexander is Macedonian.

Queen Victoria was more than a bit german ;)

I don't think original nationality ought to be an issue, weight should be put on who the leaders actually led and represnted in their career.

Well, I 've got homework for you. Find a map of Greece and see what the northern part of the country is called. You 'll be amazed.

I am not sure I would like that, because Plato's Academy appeared several centuries BC, whereas universities appear several centuries AD in game. Completely different eras.

Odeon is how the greeks called theatres. Why it replaces colosseum instead of theatre ? Maybe your Latin teacher has an answer for this...

Odea (correct plural) are greek theatres.

Latin stole the word, calling it odeum (odea in plural).

I can see why the Latin teacher may be confused, but try asking an Ancient Greek teacher.
