Off To A Good Start, Now What?

I am George W. Bush of the Americans using the 7 continets map,Warlord level, 7 civs(now 6). My main problem is building too many improvements in my cities. What do I really need in each city? Look at where I am and please give me some advice on what to do next? Thank you
