Have one of you guys seen the carioca (from Rio de Janeiro) carnival this year? My school, Unidos da Tijuca, is the champion this year! It was a majestic parade! :king:

    Since this is off topic...

Did you see District 9? The movie is based in Rio De Janeiro, right? Just curious what you thought of it.

Nope, never heard about it until you mentioned it. But in Wikipedia it says it is based in Johannesburg, SA.

I'll try to watch it this weekend, since it's a Peter Jackson's movie, right Gandalf? :)

It takes place in South Africa and it's really awesome. It looks incredible for a film with such a low budget.

Whatever happened to that 7 year old girl that was supposed to be the samba queen... I mean, for a 7 year old she could samba, but it was very obvious that she did not have queen samba skills, no matter what daddy-the-manager-of-the-school says.

This stuff is a real disgrace for the country.

What an easy way to make money laundering operations.

    Empty words, my friend.

Criticize laundry operations, don't criticize our carnival. It's the same that killing the cow in order to kill the ticks.

    Well,

Talking about movies. District 9 shows the poverty in South Africa.

For instance, if you watch the movie called "Invictus" you will see the same kind of dwelling places showed in District 9.

If you would like to have a good idea how Rio de Janeiro is, I suggest a brasilian movie called "Tropa de Elite" (I don't know if the title is translated in other countries).
