This is the first thread where I would like peopple to post ideas of what kind of game they would like to play next after this one finishes. I am hoping that TF will allow us to start a second game so we need to decide what kind of game we would like to play. If there are a few different options then a poll could be created.

I would quite like to see a diety game, as this was an emporer a game.

How about a scenario?
We'd have to pick one that would suit this style of game so maybe Colonies or something rather than a solely warmongering one. I suppose that we would need permission from the scenario author but it would be great advertising and it would be difficult for anyone to cheat as we'd already know the world.
I suppose that any further games would depend on whether the Duke can still mod the forum. Grey Fox may know about Civ 2, but seems to be based more in the Civ 3 forums and I doubt he's visited the Civ 2 discussions. I'm not questioning his credibility as a mod, as you don't need a lot of knowledge of the game to ensure that people behave properly. We should at least wait and see how much work Duke gets from the GotM before we can ask him to continue to be the mod. If he has tons of work to do then it would be unfair to impose on him further with this forum too and so we could ask other mods to volunteer or maybe just give it up.
I'd like to continue playing dip games though. Hopefully we can attract more players this time and maybe even reintroduce elections! ;)

Well if we cannot get a mod, or if Duke thinks it may be too much then one of us could help him out. I would be willing to do this. A scenarion would be a nice idea, so now people need to start suggesting scenarios they would like to play.

Well I don't know if you'd be made a mod just like that (;)) but I like the idea that people help out with modding the forum. Obviously it would be up to TF to decide on deputy badges, but if you or Leo or Kev wanted to just help out here and sort out any trouble in a calm way until a mod could deal with it properly. It wouldn't be mod status, but would be very useful if the Duke gets busy with the GotM.

I don't know much about good scenarios for expansion and the reason I suggested Colonies is that it is a PBEM in that forum, but if others who have more knowledge of scenarios would like to suggest things then maybe we can get a vote going or something. If we do decide upon playing a scenario then we could advertise in that forum too and maybe get some extra players from there.

Another thing we might like to think about doing is writing a proper report of our game in a single thread. This would be similar to the things they've got in the Civ 3 forum and to Kev's turn reports but cover the entire history of the Fanatica empire. I thought of this some time ago and began to write the "Birth of a Nation" (not the racist film) in the style of a history textbook. Unfortunately my talent for writing in the chosen style turned out exactly that: a really dull account of Ducky I's reign that would proudly grace any schoolroom. I may try to make it a little bit more interesting and post it in an official history thread if other support the idea and would be willing to write similar stories for the rules of our other presidents.

I'd like to have another Emperor game, Deity is just out of my league...If Deity gets the go-ahead I will be stepping down as Military Advisor.

Didn't "gonzo_for_civ" take over the GOTM??

 Whatever for?!
There is absolutely no difference in tactics between the levels - the AI sucks and you just need to get enough of the right troops concentrated in the right place to capture the cities you want. The only differences are that the science is slower on the higher levels, the AI will build stuff quicker and you get unhappiness earlier. The differences between Emperor and Deity will not affect the role of military advisor in any way. We would need more troops as martial law initially, so they would be missing from the field, but as soon as the infrastructure is complete then the military is the same as at any other level.

Duke is taking on the GotM for Civ 2 on his own, and Matrix has moved to Civ 3. gonzo isn't actually a mod of the forum as such - he's the mod of the chatroom but doesn't have mod powers over any of the threads here. I hope that Duke can fit in another Demo game with his packed schedule, but if he has any doubts than the other idea would be suitable too. No, not the one making Dell a mod .

Whats so funny? Is the other idea where we are trusted to behave ourselves?

It should now be Sir Duke and Sir Dell. See "The Knighting Ceremony" thread.
:)

Anyway, I'll stick around for something else if there's enough interested parties. However, I'd like a nice, cushy job like MOI or 'concerned citizen' or something. I'm a bit burned out after this last game - which isn't even finished QUITE yet. Perhaps Sir duke should go out and buy the game so he can play it properly and someday be president. :)

I like the scenario idea. TSFE maybe, or is that too much? I haven't really played very many. If not a scenario, then perhaps the large world map? And I think we should all be able to handle Deity level if that's what we choose.

I agree it should be Deity. We did well on Emperor; Deity will be a bit more of a challenge, and for any who haven't played Deity personally, remember you're not alone. A great chance to learn!

I could be cool with a scenario, though I haven't played many yet so would not be very familiar with whatever we did. Some scenarios lend themselves well to writing great storylines, too.

Kev, we all greatly appreciate you sticking it out to the end as President. You have done a truly mavelous job, and have gone above and beyond the call of duty. Please do stick around for whatever we do next and we'll try to sucker...I mean elect someone else as president for awhile ;)

If a second game is started, I will definately need a Co-Mod. Grey Fox was put in for this Democracy Game in 'name' only. He was just going to help however much he could with the Civ 3 Democracy Game.

I'm sure TF would love for a new game to be started. I'm not sure yet if I would be available to be a Mod for it or not..... :( Many things have come up since I started doing this and I was somewhat relieved it is coming to an end.... But, we'll see which way the wind blows once this game is over. :D

BTW, I have taken over the GOTM, gonzo has taken over the Civ II HOF. We'll have to see how things are once everything settles down on the site....

Deity.

Any big, huge, mongo map!!

At least 10,000 map cells.........

Do not tell members the Deity level, LOL... don't wanna scare them.

With all the eyes and brainpower focused on the game, this is an IDEAL way for those that are scared off by Deity to see how it is played. ;)

PS, There is little difference in Emperor and Deity, except in the first third of the game. Most differences relate to prioritization and happiness control. :)

Duke, can I ask you a favour?
Although I still say we should wait until after your first GotM so that you will have a better idea of how much work starlifter and Old and Slow and Smash et al are going to give you, would it be possible to start a thread in the Staff Forum to canvas people for the modding of another demo game? I wouldn't have thought that it is supremely urgent but it would be nice to see if we can have the required mod presence to keep an eye on tricky characters like Dell ;) before we start making special plans.

How about:
Giga world? (MGE only)
or Large world? both from the Civ 2 dowloads collection on this site?
I don't know if these maps have correct starting positions so if someone would like to test them then that'd be good. :goodjob:

This does bring up an issue with scenarios. Many of them require MGE, or at least FW to play. This would exclude anyone with only Classic. I don't think we want to do ANYthing that would scare off potential players. Personally, I much prefer the exploring nature of an unknown map, which would put all of the players on an equal footing. With a scenario some might be very intimately familiar with the map while others would be less so. Guess I'm changing my preference for these reasons to NOT do a scenario. but if that's what the majority decides, then I'm definitely still in :D

Anyone with classic wold have no trouble upgrading to FW. The patch is tiny and free to download here. Most people have FW but less have MGE, so FW would be best....

my concern is those who might not be aware of or for some reason don't want to install the patch to upgrade to FW or MGE. They might make a quick decision not to investigate further and so don't join the game.

But would these be the same people that would sign up for a game and then leave after a month?
