Offices: whats in it for me?

Sometimes my guys get some office from senate, aedile and the likes. Whats in it for me for practical purposes?

Also I know I can change the heir, so I assume it does matter who's the family leader. How?

Getting state offices increases certain stats that the character has (command/influence/management). Those stats tend to help.

Heirs and FLs also get stat boosts. Former heirs that lost their status have a malus.

also, the higher the office, the better the stats (e.g. Ponitfex Maximi get bigger bonuses than Aediles)
