No go on an ancient IBM Thinkpad T41p (1.7 GHz single core, 1gb ram, 128mb video), just get a black window before the program shuts itself down without an error message or anything.

Same thing here with the demo on an IBM ThinkPad Z60m (2.0 GHz single core, 2Gb RAM, 128Mb ATI X600 Mobility). Disabled the intro movie, tried fullscreen and windowed modes, etc. and nothing helped. Black screen then crash.

Oh well, I guess I'll have to wait until I get off of work and home to my real PC.

AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3400+
GeForce 7800 GT
1 gig ram

I ran it for about 15 minutes before suffering a crash after checking out the strategic view and trying to switch back to regular view. I'm gonna try again and use the strat view and see how a game goes. Probably won't be able to play any serious games with such a crappy rig but I have a 4 month old laptop that's way better, It's just not in my posession at the moment So... them's the breaks.

I have a GMA4500M - below specs but a compatability website said it'd work. Will update once the demo is DL'd

Though I'm above recomm specs, I wanted to let you know, my 3 years old 8800 GTS 512 does run very well in Dx11.
Some stuttering at the beginning, then it runs smoothly.

Well the demo seems to be working! The only stutter was in the opening video....it seemed to crash, but just took me to the main menu. Played about 15 turns at med/low settings and now am going to try to install the store-bought game.

Hi, anyone has good experience with 2G ram ?

My cpu has Intel 2.4Ghz Duo Core and 9500GT geforce. The very lame ram speed might be my last obstracle to pass.

Status : Already pre-order and I'm loading demo to see how my cpu work but my internet speed is quite low when work with steam, Thx.

I've been running the demo (DirectX9) at medium quality for everything except the Leaders (minimal), Tessellation (Low), Texture Quality (High) and it runs fine on these specs.
AMD Athlon X2 Dual Core 2.10 ghz
3 GB RAM
1.3 gb ATI Radeon 3100 Integrated Graphics
Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit

I'm below the minimum specs,

AMD Athlon Dual-Core QL-62 ~2Ghz
3GB RAM
Nvidia 8200M G 1.39GB shared video memory

and I can run the DX9 Demo on all minimum graphics with v-sync turned off and it runs fine. Looks terrible but easily playable.

EDIT: I use game booster to turn off all non-essentail windows 7 services

I have Core 2 Duo T9550 with 2.66 GHz, 3GB RAM and Intel 4500MHD integrated graphics. The demo plays reasonably well with all settings at low.

The game requires you to register online, so expect no refunds after opening the box.

My opinion: your 100% correct. Shouldn't be refunds on opened software.
All local game stores: 7 day refund with almost no exception.

I guess I shouldn't complain :)

Running Mac Book Pro with 2.53 C2D, 4MB Ram and nVidia GeForce 9400m 256mb. The game runs fine. Graphics aren't great, and leaders are static (much better). Very happy that the game runs fine.

Sweet...it seems that as we can best tell the min requirements weren't a hard line. I loaded the retail game and it seemed to play well on med/low settings which it had chosen for me. I choose DX10/DX11 too and it seems to be fine. Whatever...the graphics and leaders looked pretty darn good to me and didn't really notice any slowdown. The only "issue" I ever really had is in the demo opening movie. The first time I loaded it up and began watching it, it kind-of crashed early on, but just went to the main menu. Also, when I loaded the retail game for the 2nd time (got through the opening movie on the 1st try), I had a hard time bypassing the opening movie. After clicking around and hitting the button for awhile it finally went to the Main Menu.

Unfortunately, now I won't be able to play again until after 11pm tonight :wallbash: I'd be really curious about how/if it slows down later in the game. I did try an advanced start to the Industrial age and there wasn't any slow down, but obviously the map wasn't revealed much yet.

Need some answer.

How big differrent between Dx9, 10, and, 11

I prefer to play on DX9 for performance-wise but I don't know if the graphic would be degraded so much.

Well, it isn't running for me, though I have a VASTLY below-spec machine:

Pentium Dual CPU 1.8GHz, 1 GB ram, and . . . some kind of godawful motherboard video card.

On reasonably modern hardware DX10/11 might be even faster than DX9 mode. At least it was for me with maximum settings in each case (though in the context of this thread this was on a monstrous video card)

Yeah, again with my near min-settings it did actually give me the option and played in DX10/DX11. It said "recommended" underneath it so that's why I chose it. I'll test tonight to see if choosing DX9 makes any difference for good or bad, but it played smooth in the limited amount of turns I could play.

Moderator Action: Moved back to general discussion.
Consider this the official whining thread.

Thanks, much appreciated! Hopefully, though, this remains a thread of people who didn't think they'd be able to play, but can.:goodjob:

A Second Chance at Life.

Im nervous still. I have what was a super-jacked laptop in the Summer of 2008. It runs Civ IV on the maximum everything. Nervous about this though.
