OH MY GOD!!! :O

Looks like we've got an official Master of Magic sequel or Remake on way (courtesy of Slitherine who've bought the rights from Atari's IP dungeon and just made the announcement on their site)!!!

Guess this explains the mysterious Atari activities I noticed recently. Clearly they reacquired MoM so they could sell it to Slitherine for $$$.

If you've been following my Master of Magic Implodes Multiplayer Remake thread or my Caster of Magic thread you'll already know I'm a super fan of MoM even after 25 years.. so much so in fact that I run the Master of Magic fans Facebook and Discord groups, so as you can image I'm SUPER EXCITED about this news lol. :)

I can't can't believe that after all these years a real sequel just might be happening now. Sadly most of the old MoM forums are long dead so if there's any fans here who know of a good old MoM2 wishlist/feature request list out there please let me know and I'll go post it over on the Slitherine forums (which I've just signed up to).

They've probably barely started the project yet so now is the time to get fan feature requests and wish list items in front of their faces. If the remaining fan base doesn't speak up now then god knows what sort of game we'll end up with. So now is the time to act!

EDIT:
You can now buy the new Master of Magic remake here:
And you can get the original Master of Magic from here:

EDIT2:
Trailer and screenshots!

I´m also very excited about the new MOM-Project. The announcement now is on the Matrix site, too:

Let´s hope that this renewal will be done much better than the renewal of MOO. Much better graphics but no tabletop presentation, more enemies, good moddability - and please do not make a turnbased game with realtime combat (the cardinal error that was done with the MOO renewal).

Yeah most fans I've talked to so far appear to be mostly wanting MoM with a fresh coat of paint and don't want the wheel reinvented. Some have made some crazy suggestions but generally everything people come up with has already been done in one of the MoM style spin off games (eg Age of Wonders, Warlock, Endless Legend, Sorcerer/Elemental/FE, Worlds of Magic/PQ, Eador, Dominions etc) so such a change would make it feel more like them than a MoM sequel. So they need to update it but also be careful that they don't turn it into something else that has already been done and quite possibly done better.

A few people have joined up and posted their lack of faith in the Slitherine forums under their announcement and they were shot down pretty quick by fans of Slitherines other games, so their customer loyalty is a promising sign at least.

I've never played Fantasy General but apparently they're doing a pretty good job with it. I looked at some of the other games under their name and found some interesting ones..

Polaris appears to be a Master of Orion style game:

Pandora appears to be a Alpha Centuari, Civ Beyond Earth / AoW Planetfall sort of game:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/287580/Pandora_First_Contact/

They don't rate highly on steam but they look okay and many of the reviews (even the bad ones) all seem to talk about how hardcore the AI is so that's promising. Yeah they don't look like amazing genre changing games but they actually give me some comfort as it shows they have years of experience with 4x PC strategy gaming. Hopefully they take the good stuff from these stepping stone games and learn from the bad stuff people didn't like and put them to good use with their MoM project. Although it looks like different developers worked on those games and Slitherine just published them, so I wonder who they will put on MoM.

PS is it just me or is Pandora using the same world engine as Warlock? That is so darn similar lol.

Forgot to say that I copied your wishes to the slitherine forum @Civinator . Also as well as posting other peoples wish lists & suggestions I of course also gave them a copy of my own personal wish list below:

• BIG ONE - More than 4 enemy players. Implode's MoM HD Multiplayer Remake allowed EVERY wizard in one game for super 14 player games which would have bee EPIC and so much fun had he finished the project.
• Larger maps (Insectiside fan patch added huge map size to the original)
• Limited Spying (most fantasy rpgs have thieves/rogues so it fits and stealing spells would be fun)
• Time limit and bigger cost on time stop spell (if you're planning on having that annoying spell again)
• Demand or give cities in Diplomacy (most 4x games have this now and I like using it to play god/peacekeep and save bullied Civs and minor factions from deaths door)
• Expand Grey Neutral Faction into lots of minor factions with identities and race affiliations (eg a minor Elven race with a minor elf wizard that likes Elven main civs and makes trouble for others.. this is another thing done in modern 4x fantasy and space games)
• More worlds and/or an underground world (although this has already been done before in AoW, HoMM & Warlock series)
• More ocean content eg HoMM series filled oceans with shipwreck lairs and treasures (even Morrowind had underwater caves filled with creatures and treasure so this is not new to fantasy games). You could even have a Merfolk faction with cities in the ocean. The fun Fantasy and Midgard scenarios for Civilization 2 Test of Time had a good underwater Merfolk faction with lots of sea based units/creatures.
• Not essential but some cool weather effects would be a fun immersion factor (especially as you can tie spells into them for gameplay events such as huge storms and earthquakes etc). The Official Playstation remake of Master of Magic has clouds rolling over and some cool weather effects from spells. The new Civ6 addon Gathering Storm is another good example of world changing weather effects.
• Talk to Seravy, he's da man on all things MoM and the creator of the super popular MoM overhaul mod Caster of Magic

EDIT: BIG NEWS! They have indeed spoken to Seravy as they releasing his Caster of Magic as an official DLC to Master of Magic on Steam and GoG!!!

No more news on Slitheirine's new MoM project yet but I recently posted the great news above about Implodes Master of Magic HD Multiplayer remake getting a new release (and he's since done another release after teaching his AIs to build roads!), well recently there's been more awesome Master of Magic related news that I forgot to post here (shame on me I know lol). Seravy has started semi-public alpha testing of his new Caster of Magic 2 sequel game!

OMG! The day has finally come and we have confirmation on the Slitherine mystery MoM project I’ve posted about here before!! Slitherine are working with Thea series creators MuHa games on a Official Master of Magic Remake!!! MuHa are a small indie studio so sure enough it's nothing AAA however the new remake already looks and sounds pretty good! I can already see people complaining about the hexes and lack of multiplayer but neither of those bother me. You can find the announcement videos (they've remade the old intro!), some nice pictures, and game info on their new Steam and GoG pages!

But I'll stick a few here too! :)

Tenth MuHa dev diary for the official Master of Magic remake is here. This one contains a nice dev team Q&A based on questions the community sent in. We also get to see the updated city screen which those with a keen eye will notice little citizens going about their business (with animation according to the interview). The games extreme modability allowing fans to redesign MoM in their own way is mentioned a few times too.

Just been thrown an inside tip on something very cool coming, as many of us MoM fans have have been asking for this. On this Tuesday 10/05/2022 3pm CEST (GMT+2) Slitherine will be live streaming their latest 'Home of Wargamers' event from Venice on their Twitch channel, and what makes this one extra special is that they will be kicking it off by showing live gameplay video footage of the official Master of Magic remake for the first time! Instead of screenshots we're finally going to see this thing in action! :)

#HOWlive2022 seems to be the hash they're using.

Now, as the new Master of Magic is released, what are your thoughts and impressions about the new game ?

I am considering to buy it, but it needs free 10 GB and at present I have only 3,7 GB free on my pc, so I would have to delete some other games. One answer I haven´t found in the GOG and steam comments: How many different magicians can participate in a game with the new Master of Magic ? They only say, that there are 14 different magicians, but can they all participate in a single game ?
