NHL regular season is almost over and playoffs will start soon.
This thread is for discussing about the NHL playoffs and your favorite team.

My favorite team is Philadelphia Flyers and I hope the Flyers will go all the way to the finals this year but probably the winner comes from Detroit, New Jersey or Colorado. Of course Dallas, Tampa Bay and Vancouver could be tough.

The Lightings lost three times against the Isles this year and we saw what NY could do in the playoffs before. They'll fight for this series. This is going to be entertaining but with players like St-Louis, Lecavalier, Richards, Modin, Stillman, Sydor, Kubina, Boyle, Khabibulin, etc, I don't see TB losing this one.

    #2 Boston vs. #7 Montreal
    Montréal in 6
Call me a homer but I really think the Habs will beat the Bruins, especially if Thorton is hurt for a long period. Montréal and Boston are storied franchise with a great rivalry. No matter who wins this series will be excellent! :goodjob:

#3 Philadelphia vs. #6 New Jersey
    New Jersey in 7
The Flyers are bound to have some success in the post-season but their goalie situation scares me. NJ is experienced and they have Brodeur between the pipes so I think they'll win it but not without fighting for it.

    #4 Toronto vs. #5 Ottawa
    Ottawa in 7
Now this series is going to be explosive! Both teams have great line ups and they'll both fight to the limit. I give Ottawa the edge because I really think they'll go far in this years playoffs. Toronto has a great team but I have no faith in Belfour's health and in Pat Quinn. Whoever comes out of this series will be hurt for the next rounds.

    Western conference:

    #1 Detroit vs. #8 Nashville
    Detroit in 5
Nashville had a good season, even beaten the Wings three times but I think Detroit learned their lesson from last year against the Ducks. If, and that's a big if, Legace is strong in the net the Wings should get out of this one easily.

#2 San Jose vs. #7 St. Louis
    St-Louis in 7
Another exciting matchup. San Jose had a great season after last year's debacle but I don't think they'll be that great in the playoffs. St-Louis has more experienced and should win. St-Louis faith lays in the hands of Osgood who can be the best and the worst depending on the night.

    #3 Vancouver vs. #6 Calgary
    Vancouver in 6
Another great matchup (seriously this year's playoffs will be exciting!). Even without Bertuzzi the Nucks have a great team. Cloutier seems to finally be the goalie everyone was expecting him to be. Trades made at the deadline make Vancouver an even greater team (Sanderson's speed will be needed). Calgary has a good team but I don't see them beating the Nucks this year. Just like the Habs the Flames will become an elite team in the near future.

    #4 Colorado vs. #5 Dallas
    Colorado in 6
Wow! Did I say this years playoffs will be great yet? So many great series in first round. This is a great example of that. If they stay healty the Avs should go to the finals. Aebisher is a question mark but this team has too much talent not to win.

So here you go, these are my predictions for the first round. If everything goes as usual I'll be worng in more than one case but at least I'll get to see some great playoffs action!

Tampa in 6: Is the Ligthning for real? I don't know, but Unofficial Playoff Pick Guideline #7 clearly states: "Thou shall not pick a team with Alexei Yashin on the roster."

Boston in 6: A toss-up. On paper Boston has a better team, but can Raycroft overcome lack of playoff experience? What the hell, sure he does.

New Jersey in 7: Flyers have Esche and Burke. Devils have Brodeur. Need I say more?

Ottawa in 6: They better. By picking the Sens, I am overlooking Unofficial Playoff Pick Guideline #3: "never pick a team that chokes against the Leafs three times over the last four years, even more so when they are the hometown boys". The fans don't think we stand a chance in hell, but if Ottawa beats the Leafs, I will see Lord Stanley's Mug on Bank street this spring.

Detroit in 6: The Preds will make it close, specially if they break out their (ugly, ugly) third jersey for the games at the Joe.. Besides, Legace is starting in net for the Wings. Could be the most underrated series of the playoffs.

San Jose in 5: I don't know what to say anout this series. No idea about any of these teams so I'm picking out of a hat... looks like the Sharks beat the Blues. Does that sound right?

Calgary in 6: Sorry Canucks fans, the Flames are riding my upset special into the sunset. The troika of Iginla, Kipprusoff and Sutter make this squad a conference finalist.

Colorado in 7: Aebisher's coming out party, he will single-handedly steal this series for the Avs, who will realize that trading Derek Morris away was a mistake.

For information's sake, here are TSN's Maggie the Monkey's picks:

    nashville
    boston
    nj
    tor
    Nyislanders
    st.louis
    vancouver
    dallas

For those not in the know, I think last year she correctly picked the results of all the series (yes, yes, inlcuding the Ducks getting to the finals)

that little ***** picked the Leafs...
death to the monkey! (I do not believe she is radioactive though...)

In all rounds, picking the winner of a series with the right number of games lands you 1 bonus point. Picking the winner of a series yields: 2pts in the first round, 3pts in the quarterfinals, 4pts in the semifinals and 5pts in the finals.

Make the picks in this thread at least 30 minutes before the start of the first game of the series.

Good luck to all, except if you picked the Leafs over the Sens (that means you, Maggie!)
