Testing out the new version of FF, playing as the Archos. Something i realized, was that deer do not count towards the +1 happiness from the palace, I know it was the same in the previous versions but i thought that it makes more sense to include deer for this palace bonus. I have not seen this discussed before on these threads but i might have overlooked the topic.

Also upon declaring war with another civ half of my HN spiders are being dumped back into my borders, is this intended? (I think i remember this being a bug before but do not remember if this was fixed.)

    The Archos palace currently has:

    Code:

                        <BonusType>BONUS_TOAD</BonusType>
                        <iHappinessChange>1</iHappinessChange>
                    </BonusHappinessChange>
                </BonusHappinessChanges>
Cow, Pig, sheep, and Toads give happiness bonuses there.
Currently, the following food resources don't.

    Wheat
    Corn
    Rice
    Fish
    Crabs
    Clams
    Whale
    Deer
    Arctic Deer
    Bananas
    Fruit of Yggdrasil
    Gulagarm

And possibly some others I've forgotten about.
Which ones do you think should contribute ?

Well to fit with the flavor of the civ, i think that deer/arctic deer should be added to that palace bonus, i imagine when feeding the Archos nest deer are just as adequate as cows/pigs/sheep, i do think that toads should be taken off the spider menu though.
Elephants and whales are too big imo

just posted in the bug thread, elephants i do agree there is a gray line flavor wise, might be a tad too big unless the nest is at a certain size, whales might be a bit too much unless the nest is at a size 20+ pop, dont know how possible that would be to code though.

It's really a shame that Humans can't eat anything other than mice, walnuts, and grapes because of the size.

 Encountering artists is a rare event, indeed.

Now you all know... giant spiders (or perhaps Mother, herself) can eat elephants with ease!

    ... :yumyum:

You shouldn't know spiders don't eat any of those things, they just drink their blood (and other liquefied tissue).

kind of. as far as I know they inject them with digestive acids, then drink their dissolved internal organs and leave the husk behind.

If that is the case, then they would eat normal (non-exoskeletal) animals and leave only the bones. So anyone live in an area with spiders large enough to have non-exoskeletal prey who can confirm/deny the possibility they consume blood only, or full flesh? Too lazy to wiki myself, but I imagine you lack considerable nutrition content by doing blood only. But I also don't know the dietary requirements of a spider.

I'm definitely sure they can eat mammals. large tarantulas eat rats for breakfast.

"Tarantulas use their fangs for subduing their prey and carrying it to their dens (or to a safe location) for devouring at their leisure. They don't have teeth for tearing and chewing their meals so they regurgitate digestive juices onto their victim. These digestive juices break down the soft tissues so that the spider can slurp up its meal. All that's left when the spider has finished its meal is bones, skin, fur and/or feathers."

"But when feeling threatened, the goliath bird-eater is capable of making a pretty loud hissing noise by rubbing bristles on its legs together. Called stridulation, it can be loud enough to be heard up to 15 feet away!"

    eek

I like to say this: "Did you know there's a spider the size of a plate that can sneak up on birds?"

Makes sense for having only domesticated animals count towards the happiness, being that spiders like to recieve their prey alive and that's difficult to do when you need to hunt said prey to deliver it to her...

I can see the rationale for the current setup.

so deer and arctic deer need to be added, as well as ivory imo. Since there are wild elephant animals, I see them as being giant elder beasts, while ivory represents colonies of smaller, more feeble elephantine creatures.

Thank you for mentioning Ivory... You've reminded me to allow it to spawn in Tundra. (Mammoths in FFPlus)

I'd probably add fish in there. There are actual spiders who catch fish. Apparently, the fish just jump into their web to get eaten.
