OK, maybe you saw my first monarch game. I obviously am not good enough to step it up to that level. So this time i stepped it down a notch to regent. i think i did alot better this time, especially at placing my cities. but i think a few of em could have been alot better placed.

China

Regent

Continents

70%

All others normal.

Ok, i built most of my core cites that you see now. I dedided i was gonna play a more peaceful game. But im not gonna make the same mistake as last time. I decided i was gonna build up an army of horsemen, just in case. Also, the horsemen will quickly be able to be upgraded to Riders as soon as i discover chivalry.

Good thing, as soon as i had built up about 8-10 horsemen, the Romans declared war on me. Next thins i know, the english do the same. Holy crap, i swear the Romans spearmen have defence of 8. I lost mostly all of my horsie's to their spears. I had to make peace with the English. But no mercy for Rome. They will die. By this time im already in a Republic, and im wondering how long i can hold up without major war weariness kikin in. i put a drive on for chivalry. I get it, the beat the livin crap out of Rome with my Riders. "Mwahahaha,im gonna kill them", i thought. But then, all my cities go into dissorder. " Uhhhh, peace please", so i get everything Ceasar has for peace ( which wasnt too much). And that is where i am now.

i dont know if i should keep building riders, of focus more on granarys, librarys ect.....

So, can i get some comments please :D :D

( i promise i wont save over it this time :)

Uhm, there is no war weariness in Monarchy. That's the good thing about Monarchy.

The little trick on monarch and higher level is diplomaty. Why ? as soon as an a.i. declare war on you you must immediatly find an ally ( military alliance through ambassy). So choose the closest a.i. to your ennemy and give them something to help you. Giving a tech or gold is nothing compare to the alliance you will get.

Human history is full of alliance and bettrayal.

In Civ3, if you act immediately after the AI declares war on you, then you can at a reasonable price buy some allies. Then let them fight the war if you like. If you wait awhile before getting allies, the aggressive civ will get some first. More fun that way, but sometimes the war is not convenient. Following Tassadar's advice makes the war a lot easier.

build more temple, spend some money on entertaiment. get some more luxuries to boost ur citizens happiness

Trickey,
First thing I see wrong is tiles are not being used efficiently. You have numerous shielded grassland that are irrigated in cities that don't need it. They have plenty of food. If I were you I would mine all the shielded grassland. You need to optimize your cities for size 12. In other words, get them to where with 12 citizens, your are making 24 food and max shields. Hospitals are a long ways off yet.
Your production is pretty low in many cities. You also are running many entertainers. Why?? WTLKD is not a big enough boost to justify having 2 citizens not working in a size 8 city!! Get those people working. You also need to think about getting your Forbidden Palace built ASAP. Personally I think you should build more Riders and wipe Rome off the map. Veii looks like a good place to have your FP. If your lucky, you'll get a GL and can rush the FP there. If you don't get a Great Leader you're going to have to build it. It needs to be started like.......now! This will be a tremendous boost to those northern cities. Then you should have some time to get caught up on infrastucture in those cities. Your going to need it because the Great Library is going to break soon (when Education is discovered) and you need the cash flow!!!

I have found that republic is good for short wars but after 20 turns, you will be worse off than just staying in monarchy.

Getting a FP is crucial to future development. a fp should be 2 cities away from your palace and this can double your production by reducing corruption.

Just getting a FP build early(preferably in the midts of your conqured foe's cities) can get you a win up to monarch....

At the expense of reputation, I would consider building up units, massing them on romes border and declaring war, taking a city then obtain peace, rinse and repeat. For a republic, this is one of the most efficient ways to fight wars. War weariness is reduced to a few turns that you take and hold a city. You might get flipping but you can station units to retake it while your current units are recuperating.

a question: do you have barracks? in your production cities get them. In a frontier city, get a barracks to help speed up your units recovery.

Ahhh, things look alot different now. I decided to whipe out Rome, except for 1 colonie off on the other side of the continent. The war with rome was quite short indeed. Only took about 5 turns for me to whipe out all mainland cities.

Since the war was so short, and i had minimal casualties, i had a ginormous amout of left over riders. Well, you dont expact me to just sit around with 'em, do ya? :soldier: :soldier: I wanted to take out france 'cause i had a very small border with em, and they could only attack one of my cities for now. The war with France was long, but not many casualties. Those damn cities kept flippin back to France. But in the end, they had no country to flip back to. Mwahahahaha.

No stoppin me now, i was in war mode. KILL KILL KILL KILL!!. So i build up an army of Riders at the English border, then attacked. Uh oh. I think i bit off a bit more than i could chew with 3 wars in a row. Especially sice the English's cities were heavilly fortified. So i made sure to at lest get one city out of the war (york) and then try to make peace.

So not much happened for the next little while. But then i came up with a brilliant idea ( or so i thought). I had about 50-60 riders just sittin there doing nothing. So i decide to make Leonardo's Workshop. The I would head for Military Tradition @ max science. I got it, then just trampled over England. i left them one city, hoping that between them and Rome, they could come up with the odd tech once and a while.

That bbrings you to where i am now. I got alot in the English war, including a buch of well developped cities. As a bonus, i got the collosus and the great lighthouse.
