Old Pictures Disappeared

I recently noticed that some pictures (which I uploaded to CFC) I posted in threads a while ago have now disappeared. However, there seems to be no general pattern, as the odd picture will be missing here or there. Why is this? Do pictures with a certain age get deleted at random?

Could it be that they were originally loaded into the civfanatics.net -server? It was down a couple of days ago...
