On Great Leaders

Is it my imagination or is it easier to promote elite units to Great Leaders through combat, the higher level you play. It seems so to me but I could be wrong. I usually play as the Americans. Any opinions on this ??

Some people have stated that GL:s are spawn more easily through hard fights. If this is true, it could explain your observations. (Hard fights are more likely on higher levels when your opponents are more technologically equal to you.)

Hmmm.... I have been playing on and off since mid December, and I still have not seen a GL....

Have been playing on Warlord (Chieftain seems to easy, but if I keep losing I may try it yet ). Have played (amongst others) as Russians, and am now doing Aztecs - will start a war with them as soon as I have fixed my happiness problems, and that could be 40 turns..... that might take me a week! (only can play for 6 hours a week or so).
