The object of this thread is manyfold, but all revolve around the topic of the CFC Model Parliament.

The goals of this thread are as stated below:

1. To discuss popular opinion concerning the resurrection of the CFC Model Parliament in Form Games

2. To discuss suggested changes to the MP, based on experience from the last session of the game

3. To organize further threads towards the similar goals of organizing and coordinating the re-commencement of the MP Forum Game, assuming the two aformentioned goals are completed successfully

4. To achieve moderator and forum administrator approval and sanctioning of this undertaking, which should be seen as prerequisite for any and all of the above goals

Could the less well versed in forum history have a brief explanation of what exactly Model Parliament is? Like me?

It was essentially a model parliament, like you might have a model congress or model UN. A seperate sub-forum was set up in Forum Games where we had short run-off elections for parliament seats, followed by a selection of Prime Minister, and then going about a short session of Parliament, where legislators introduced bills and such, and they were debated and voted on, with lots of politicking going on outside the "chamber."

Sounds sexy. I'd try to get in on that if it's approved. How come it died?

No. Model Parliament is a game that revolves around argument - that is, CFCers arguing with each other about politics. Can you not see why that sucks as a concept? Can you not see why it fails every time it's tried?

Isn't there enough bickering, attention-seeking, flaming, baiting and general carrying-on around here without a model parliament? After all, parliament's about the one place on Earth with more mindless chatter and nonsensical arguments than internet messageboards.

What Catharsis said.
And besides, before even thinking about starting a new MP, you need a very important thing : A Game Moderator (GM).
Unless the game starts with a whole package of original game world and a complete set of rules, it's not gonna work.

There were too many left-wingers, and I think we were low on authoritarian nutjobs.

We've done this before, people. Its certainly not impossible.

Yep. It died, was resurrected, and died again.

Do we really need to retry it? One definition of insanity is the belief that doing the same thing over and over will lead to a different result....

Hey, if it gets revived, I'll play along. But I don't see much likelihood of it getting revived.

Hmm. If it does get resurrected, I call the Gustav III position.

I'd be more interested in a CFC general parliament (or senate) - but even with the recent increases in Moderator numbers that seems even more doubtful.

Well what is the end result? I thought the point was that it was supposed to be fun? I mean, fictional country, fictional laws and stuff, its not as if we were trying to really govern the forum or something. If the Parliament gets revived every so often for another round, and people have fun doing it, then what failure is there in its purpose?

The last time we hardly got out of set up before it died. And even after that attempts to revive it failed. Chances are a new parliament will die as well.

If you want to go ahead, I'd get a list of interested people first. My guess is TF will be very skeptical about reviving MP.

I would be willing to help set up rules and structure for a new model parliament (game rules are fascinating for me). I do not want to get involved in event management and gameworld development (though I must remind people I am vehemently for making our nation on an alter-earth not a made up world).
