For Tournament, Game 1, I've decided to do an OCC, on Regent. It is harder than I expected! Keeping up pace with tech is challenging, and I am beginning to fall behind a tech or two. Luckily, the world seems to be slipping into war, which should help my cause.

I have two wonders built out of the Ancient age, and the AI nabbed all the rest in a 1 turn cascade [].

Any help? I'm obviously going for the 20,000 one city culture win [culture win is mandatory for 3-1], but it is much more challenging then I expected, keeping up with tech and getting wonders.

Any tips/strategies from people who have done OCCs before?

My to-do list on OCC:

Check AI leaders every few turns to find good deals, sometimes their stuff is on sale, and I am not kidding, I've got oil for 1 gold, and I've got a 2nd-Civ tech half price. If you plan to sell a new tech, sell them to all the AI civs at the same turn to avoid intra-AI trading. Also, sell the new tech to the wealthies civ first. Check F7 screen often, and check AI progress on great wonders. Buy as many workers as possible, once you have engineering you can plant/chop forrest to get more shields. If an AI demand tribute from you, generally speaking you should yield.

You'd better settle on a coast, the colossus is the #1 wonder for an OCC game.

Get several warriors for military police and a temple then work on the Colossus.

Keep your science rate at max, research toward literature.

The Great library is your next wonder, prebuild with the Pyramid. If you are on an island, then build the Great Lighthouse. If you are playing on Monarchy or lower, you should be able to build these key wonders without problems.

Once you get the Great library, research toward the Republic, sometimes AI civs are too slow.

Revolt to Republic and stay with it for the rest of the game, revolt to Demoncracy later when you have nothing to do.

Even with the Great library, you should still do your own research, the reason: at this point you are playing with small money, it is not that important to accumulate cash. Do your own research allows you to build great wonders earlier than everybody else. Do not let the great library slow you down.

You should ignore those unnesscessary techs if possible.

Build all culture buildings ASAP, if you have the time, next ancient wonder is the Hanging Gardens, you can get it only if AI tech progress is very slow.

There are many great wonders in the middle ages, at the beginning, try to build Sistine's, then Bach's, again, it's okay if you miss them. The key wonders for middle ages are the Copernicus and the Newton's, you should build them at all cost. Shakespeare is sweet, however, you probably won't be able to do it since it is on the other side of the tech tree.

Again, shop around for good deals on tech, and ignore the ones you don't need.

In the industrial age you should still do your own research, remember AI will give you a discount if you have already poured a great deal of money in a tech.

You should focus on research steam power and industrialization, get yourself railroad, factory, coal plant, and then scientific method, build Theory of Evolution, AI civs will generally work on nationalism, communism then the replaceable parts. You should use TOE for electronics, build the Hoover dam if you got a river. Now research Radio, Sell these techs for a good sum of money and other techs. Your goal is to have at least 10k money in bank at the end of industrial age.

Again, Ignore unnessesary techs such as nationalism.

In the Modern ages, UN is the #1 wonder, buy fission and work on the UN ASAP, once you have UN, the game in on your hands.

This is my strategy for a super science city OCC win. The science output from this single city should beat 4 or 5 AI cities combined. The city location is extremely important. First of all, You need to be on a coast, and you need at least 3 squares of hills or mountains to get you a good number of shields to win great wonder races. River is also preferred. Bonus grasslands are always welcome. luxuries not necessary but good if you have them. Remember to buy luxuries from the AI, it costs you like 3 gold per turn, so it'll worth it. This strategy works great on standard or smaller maps at monarchy difficulty or lower. You can generally win even if all AI civs peacefully build all the time. Good luck to you if you play larger maps or Emperor/Deity levels.
