In all the C3C games I've played so far, I've only been able to get 2 SGLs, even though I've been well ahead of every other civ tech-wise and I've been Scientific civs.

Has anyone else gotten more than 2 SGLs in their game, or is there some kind of limit on them?

Well you only have a 3-5% chance of getting one depending on whether you are scientific or not. So it is all depends on the RNG, and the RNG doesn't seem to like civ players. :p

And the most I have ever gotten in a game is 1.

Someone said they had more than 2 SGLs in a game, but several have gotten fewer.

If you were the first to get 30 techs in a game, there would have been a 40% chance of getting ZERO SGLs; with 40 techs, 29%.
Assuming a non-Scientific civ, with 3% chance of a SGL by being first to research a civ (goody huts don't count)!

I think there are 86 techs total, including the ones you start with. You'll probably trade for some of the others.

I happened to get 2 SGLs recently, on a large-map game with only 8 civs where I lead from the medieval age and almost finished the tech tree.

i haven't gotten one yet. but i still crank out the military leaders (i play as germany in my random games).

it's weird having to actually BUILD great wonders in conquests ...

It's just that I'm almost always a Scientific civ, and because I play at Chieftain level, I'm always at least one era ahead of any other civ, but I only ever get 2 SGLs. Furthermore, I always get them back-to-back -- once I get my first SGL, the next tech I research always seems to produce a 2nd. After that, it just dries up for me.

Are you saying you can't get SGL from popping a goody hut and getting a brand new tech? Related but different, there's a post around here somewhere purporting to get two SGL's in a single turn, due to one from first to Phil and one from the subsequent free tech.

I had 3 SGL with Babylon in my first Epic Game. Later on with the spanish I got only one, in modern age.
Given there are 84 techs to discover, with a scientific civ the max number of SGL you can reasonably hope for is around 10, and you have a 0,6% chance, supposing you're the first to discover all 84 techs, which of course is not possible since all civs start with 2 techs at the beginning. Getting two is normal, I'd say. That is, given getting a SGL is luck, you're normally lucky ;)
Let's say you have quite a good game and are the first to discover 60 techs, you only have around 20% chance of getting 2 SGL.

EDIT : to make it short, the SGL generation is designed so that you will normally get 2-3 in a game for scientific, 1-2 for non-scientific. end Edit.

The thing to remember is : the time of rushbuilding every wonder is over. You can plan for 2 wonders at most, I'd say. But the good thing is that you can have several SGL at the same time, meaning you really can just put them in your capitol and wait for Hoover Dam. It's not like MGL where you must use them fast if you want to get some more :)

You're not alone - I've played two 2 1/2 (long) epic games, two scientific civs on mornarch always a few techs ahead, and not a single SGL yet. Got one on the Rise of Rome scenario, though, so at least I know it can happen.

Never got a SGL in my games:) I do have to say my last game i was down in tech bad so... I did get some MGLs though :) Built army with it :)

I hardly ever get SGL's I HATE IT HATE IT HATE IT. My friends also hate it when i get them on MP :D

I usually get my quota of 2 SGL's per game. I obviously use them to rush wonders, I mean, there is not much else to do with them. I love using them in MP's to rush wonders, and annoy my friends.

In my latest game I had 4 SGL and they came at the right
moment. The first three came after I researched a tech with
a Great Wonder.Number four I used to boost my research.
The game was nearing it's end and there weren't wonders
to finish.I could have probably more SGL,because there
was a lot to research. The game ended while I was reseaching
Steel.I had already researched Radio and Refining. My capitol
reached the 20000 cultural points.
It was a huge map with 7 other civs at Warlord.I played the
Maya.

Got an SGL in my first game, first tech I researched.
Now if I have the same luck with them that I've always had with military leaders, I'll get my second in about August.

I actually got two in the ancient age (Regent level, playing Chinese). Let me tell you it's too easy to win Cultural when you've got Pyramids, Great Library, and Hanging Gardens in one city. I finally realized I should play Monarch. I actually decided not to use the Great Library too the best effect, but rather as just a ton of Cultural. I think the only advances I got from it were Code of Law and Republic.

i have goten 4 in one game once :D!!

well i was greece so that helped a lil :p

I find that I am getting military GL's more frequently, and not even in long pitched battles, a few border skirmishes. Armies are way better so its worth it! :D

I got to in my Game last night, and I'm not sure but can having a SGL prevent you from getting a MGL?
