Only loads autosaves, will not load saved games

OK, I couldn't find this one when I searched:

No matter if I try to load the game from the main menu, or start a new game and load from within that game, it will not load any of the manually-saved games I've saved. I can hear the sounds as if I'm in the game, but the screen is blank with the loading graphic still at "finishing".

But if I load an autosave, it works....

Any ideas?

I'm playing this on my sony vz-s430 laptop:
T7200 processor
2 Gigs Ram
Vista Business
NVidia Go 7400 256mb dedicated card w/ hybrid integrated

EDIT: Now some of my autosave games aren't loading. It'll load up one where I'm docked in Europe, but when I set sail for the new work and exit to go back to the map, it sticks there too... I can start a new game though just fine.

I've messed with all graphics options (resolution, texture detail, etc) with no help..

I have the same problem here. 4 out of every 5 saves will load for me. The trick that I use when it appears to "lock up" is as follows:

-> Minimize the game (by hitting the start button or <Ctl>-<Tab>
-> Then returning to the game by clicking it on the taskbar.
-> When the game re-appears, the load is complete and I'm off and running

Give it a shot and let me know how you make out. Good luck.

PS - Hopefully they're aware of this and include it as part of a patch. It works for me but isn't something that I should have to do.

I am having the same problem. Most my saved games (including autosaves) won't load. It will be stuck at the end of finalizing but never load. I also have one autosaved game where it does load but (the same as the person described above) when I click the end button on the dock screen it doesn't do anything.

I play in windows mode so minimizing does nothing. I suppose I can ditch the windows mode and see if the minimizing trick works. Any other ideas? Thanks.
