I'm just posting two threads in a row. :D

So this is just for (hard)rock. What type of rock do you like? And I'm asking this because I'm a big rock fan and almost never listen to any other type of music.

Examples
Popular rock: the junk you hear on the radio.
Glamour rock: Guns 'n Roses, Queen: old classics.
Hardrock: Guano Apes, Nirvana, Metallica, Limp Bizkit.
Alternative rock: ...Tough one. But I feel there's a distinction between this and...
Symphonic/Progressive rock: Dream Theater, Marillion, The Gathering
Trash metal: Megadeth
Death metal: Don't know any band, but the voters do. ;)
Speed metal: Dimmu Borgir. What's making everyone nuts. :crazyeye:

I drank too much... Now I see everything twice :D :D can you help me to find out where should I vote if I want classic rock or rock 'n' roll?

PS
Either there are too many metal styles or I'm seeing everything more then twice...

He has 6 types of heavy rock but only two of soft rock! Where would you put the beatles, Sting, wings, dire straits, Elvis, the doors, the who, madness, alan parsons project, Knopfler, the beach boys, the bee gees, the police, and all the other not-so-heavy rock artists?

The Beatles, the Beach Boys and the Bee Gees could be counted as "popular rock", what else should that be?
He missed classic Rock'n Roll though.
And he distinguishes between three types of metal, which is correct, but in this poll one to cover all should have been enough in my opinion.

Most of those I'd put in the pop rock section.

And there should be a seperate section for limp bizkit - 'crap rock.'

and add Metallica!

There's a pretty wide definition of "alternative." I always think of it as rock, but influenced by pop - not huge guitar solos or drum solos, etc. Some people just define it as music that doesn't get played on the Top40 radio, or that doesn't fit easily into a genre or category. Oh well, I will vote for it anyway because I like alternative bands and sometimes alternative radio.

Nirvana deffinately belongs in "Grunge Rock", Limp Bizkit is more of a "Rap Rock" and Metallica is "Money Grubbing Rock". Bastards helped to shut down Napster...yeah, well I stil ain't buying a CD, but I was back then.... :p

I voted for Popluar Rock

I would second the idea for "Oldie Rock" for guys like Rollin Stones, Beatles, etc.

Trash Metal!? Don't you mean Thrash Metal? (Though I agree Megadeth IS trash!)

Slayer is THE metal band!

80s Thrash all the way!

And psychedelia.

Just give me that old time rock and roll. The kind of music that soothes your soul.

Classic rock for me, but of course all classic rock was popular rock at one time.

Rush, Pink Floyd, Boston, Dire Straits, Queen, Eagles, Bruce Springstein, Bob Seager, Aerosmith, the list goes on and on but you get the idea.

Well, i would go for all of the above save trash and death metal, only including speed metal because I don't know what it is I am meant to be condemning.

Sigh! 15.346 cm

GRUNGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(as in Nirvana, Soundgarden and Alice In Chains being three of my favorite bands!!!)

My tastes just can't be pigeonholed that easily.... I tend to like, what I call "good music"--and that can fall into any category (well, maybe not "trash metal" ;) ). "Not good" music can also fall into any category too.

For example, under "glam rock" I like David Bowie and Queen, don't mind Guns n' Roses, generally dislike Kiss and HATE Motley Crue. Under "speed metal" I liked the Dead Kennedys in their day but didn't care so much for Metallica, etc.

Generally if I feel a band is fresh and creative, genuine, or not merely resting on some formula, I tend to like them, or at least appreciate them. And such bands can fall into any genre. So can the crap bands too though.

One thing about the poll though--I guess I picture "pop music" as being the dance music you hear on Top 40 radio, bubblegum stuff, etc. Even the way you described the category in the poll implies this somewhat. I LIKE the Beatles (especially the more "serious" stuff they did in their later years), the Stones, Pink Floyd, Santana, etc.--but I kind of cringe at voting for the same category that supposedly includes n'Sync, the Backstreet Boys, Madonna, and all that other pop crud.... You really should have had another category then (psychedelic rock, "classic" rock, etc.).

But as Thorogood said, "that don't confront me"--I generally don't vote in polls like these anyway. My tastes range from Jimmy Buffett to Black Sabbath.... But that certainly doesn't mean "everything in between" either.
