Hello, fellow Rulers!
What do you think so far of the leaders? Not in a meta way, but in the way of what you think of them as opponents.
Are there any people you hate in a way you'd hate Montezuma, love Gilgamesh or cower in fear in front of like Gandhi?
For me so far, there are a few notable leaders.
Xerxes: Has been in every. Single. Game. I had so far. In the first two games he was in the distant lands, being the undeniable King of Kings™ over there. Now in my two more recent games he's been on my home continent blobbing like crazy and regularly going over settlement cap. He seems to found more cities than other leaders. He's been a fine trade partner and friend so far. He dow'd on me once, but I beat some sense into him again. Now that I worked myself up to Souvereign difficulty where I'm quite comfortable, he seems to be a formidable opponent, at least when it comes to expanding in a sensible way.
Harriet: Always spawning in the distant lands, she's been a midgame trade partner I've had a somewhat strained relationship with. She seems to spy on me occasionally, and yesterday evening she declared on me, so I can't really say if I'm that friendly towards her. But she also seems to keep her empire well together.
Napoleon: Either a total bro or a total nuisance.
Friedrich: Always angry at me, always at max five cities in the endgame with by far the worst yields. Hurts my inner Prussian child to witness.
Confucius: Stacking specialists so hard that his science yields makes him look like he's cheating. Always friendly towards me, but I had to betray him in my second game with him, since his science got out of control and somebody needed to stop him from going to space.
José: BRUTAL competition when going for the 7 wonders in the antiquity, sucks at expansion, declared war on me without touching borders while at friendly relation. And they say Machiavelli is a slimy weasel. He attacked a distant land island of mine with a Ship of the Line (bad idea to fight a Katyusha with that), a 30% HP Line Infantry and a Settler(!). In my current game he seems to be this guy who peaked inhigh school the Ancient Era and now that it's the 1700s he's lost all his magic and élan.
The other leaders I don't have real opinions on yet, except maybe for Himiko, Amina and Augustus, simply because they are very reluctant to even show up at all in my games (both full games or short playsessions that go nowhere).
